Session 2 - The Brother of the Cousins of the Sister of a Murderer?
General Summary
A Tour of Legacy
Yenush manages to avoid getting tackled to the ground by the full force of a doberman who is beyond excited to see him. As this occurred, Yenush felt eyes on him for a brief moment... until Vendetta turned and boarded the lower levels of the Iron Queen. Confused as to why Ozti would be here, Yenush asked about Yelkin and Ozti booked it down the pier. Without hesitation, Yenush followed, leaving the other five behind. Yenush pays little mind to everyone and everything as he sprints from one side of Legacy to the opposite. Why is there a loading dock for an Iron Arrow here? And why do the tracks lead into the miasma? Ozti stops on the loading dock, sitting as she wags her tail and looks off into the miasma. Yenush stops by Legacy Hall to inquire about the tracks. If you're curious about the comings and goings of the Iron Arrow, best talk to the Church or to the Academic Center, depending on what you're looking for. Yenush feels a sense of home upon hearing that Legacy Hall features a courtroom, even if rarely used.
Meanwhile, the rest of the group consults with one of the locals on the dock. Milo asks what the hulking creature is. Ah yes, that would be Vendetta. He's Eight's pet... or companion? No one knows what Vendetta is, but he's definitely not a dog. Aiaoue mentions her skills at weaving and carving; the usher suggests visiting Sinner's Choice, but specifically refers her to the Theater end of the establishment. Cadence mentions that she has skills in healing; the usher looks relieved – we only have one healer and there's only one clinic here. Any aid would be wonderful. However, beware the healer's sister... she's a bitch. Teagan mentioned mining and the usher inhaled sharply. Sure, if you want to mine you should probably talk to Jeff, but he's got no qualms with talking about how he murdered someone. As far as the usher is aware, Jeff hasn't killed anyone on Legacy. If you want to find him, best stop by his cousins' pawn shop. Milo, taking notes, gets confused. Wait, the brother, the cousins, the sister, the murderer? Who's who?
After securing very basic accommodations at the Welcoming Center – a place that is in fact not very welcoming – the group heads up to the heart of Legacy. With a quick lap of the town complete, the group splits up. Teagan heads to a two-story building that was clearly not built for someone of his height and stature. Entering the chaotic Pawn shop, he is greated by two nearly identical brothers: Maurit & Hudsun. Trinkets! Baubles! Shiny things! Welcome to Pica's! Teagan asks about fishing trinkets and Hudsun scurries off into the shop. Turning to Maurit, Teagan inquires about Jeff. The bird's tone shifts... what do you want with Jeff? Hudsun returns with a selection of items and, after picking one, a slightly taller (one might say a giant among his kind) aarakocra walked down the stairs looking sour and unhappy... Jeff. The sour bird is quick to make it clear that he's killed someone and although Teagan has height and bulk on him... Teagan's knees are perfectly within kneecapping range. You want to help in the mine, be up at the crack of dawn.
Yenush watches Vendetta drop off the supplies he carried and then he... continuously vomits up more and more boxes. Perfectly in sync, the massive lizardfolk hurls and sorts the boxes as Vendetta deposits them. When the last of the supplies have been delivered, Vendetta moves towards a single red door in the center of town. As Yenush is attempting to discern who the statue near the door depicts, Ozti scratches the door before she simply... walks through it. When Yenush tries to follow, he slams into the door instead. He then knocked. A tall, pale-skinned woman answered. Yenush inquired about how she came to be in charge of Ozti's care. Did you know someone by the name of Yelkin? Why do you wish to know? What is your intent? As Eight's eyes scanned Yenush, her expression shifted slightly. She eventually stated that she does not know of the person Yenush is searching for... and she does not try to hide her lie. Yenush offers favor or service in exchange and then hesitates when Eight asks him to bleed. Perhaps she would entrust Yenush with what help she requies... but he has yet to prove his mettle.
The remaining four head to Sinner's Choice and are ushered into the back seats during the second act of a performance. Aiaoue recalls the story and Milo, after seeing the end, pieces together the story of Queen Zephyra's tragic death after the Dread King's War. Although it is a modest production with simple set designs and a very small ensemble to support the main roles, it is well done. Afterwards, they are led to an older, soft spoken woman: Madame Delilah Blythe. Delilah explained that while she formally owns all of Sinner's Choice, she primarily manages and oversees the Theater's affairs. Upon making eye contact with Arkyn, a feeling of distant kinship passed over them. Arkyn interpreted that as a divine signal to lend one of his smut books to this older lady. You should really adapt that into a play! Delilah offers to arrange rooms for Aiaoue and Arkyn and a "trial period" for both of them to use their weaving/carving and mending skills to aid in productions.
Everyone then heads over to Cast-Off's, the one tavern in Legacy. The place seems to be run by a young elven man with a full set of facial piercings. Aiaoue catches a bit of magic as he seems to levitate drinks from his position at the bar to all of his patrons. Approaching the bar, Teagan experienced an odd surge of worry as the bartender's expression also morphed... before it faded. The bartender, ignoring that weird feeling, introduced himself as Jinoah, or Jin. Teagan immediately asks about a sister? Tonic, mayhaps? Surprisingly, Jin hasn't heard that one. Aiaoue trades a carved polar bear in exchange for nicer wine, which Jin serves. Asking about entertainment, Jinoah is willing to bring on extra entertainment; wouldn't hurt to have a few more options. Yenush goes to assess the fiddle threat (aka Bryant) and deems him perhaps a suitable tutor if needed. Inquiring about food, Jinoah calls to the back. Is this going to be edible? There's a very disgruntled child-like voice from the kitchen. Shortly afterwards, a little gnome girl brings out food of simple, but clearly home cooked food. She seems very happy when her food is complimented as she departs. Shortly after the girl's departure, Jinoah suddenly blacks out... a pillow at the side of the bar flying out to catch his face before it slams into the bar top. Cadence quickly assesses him and determines that he is... sleeping. Elves shouldn't sleep. He's got narcolepsy guys.
As night falls, darkness sets in. The moon and stars cannot penetrate the miasma. Cadence doesn't like that... but a part of her delights in the darkness. Odd, noted.
Another Day in Legacy
At the crack of dawn (hard to tell when you can't see the sun), Aiaoue and Teagan get up. Aiaoue goes to the beach to rest, reflect, and ensure her net is mended and in good condition. As she approaches the water, her skin prickles, but it eventually settles and numbs as she adapts. Meanwhile, Teagan follows Jeff to the entrance of a mine tunnel. You're not going to try and kill me right? Jeff ominously laughs as he descends into darkness. At the end of the mining tunnels are small offshoots where Jeff has clearly dug. He goes down one small offshoot and stops in front of a material that makes Teagan's skin crawl. Is it metal? Is it... bone? Something else? The uncertainty seems to invoke a sense of paranoia and mild dread. When Teagan mentions it, Jeff shrugs. He's pretty hardened... after all, his heart and any feeling is at the bottom of a mine shaft. Ah, yes, like that guy you killed... why'd ya kill him? Jeff counters: Why are you here? Teagan responds that he wants to do some good. Jeff laughs.
Arkyn bolts out of bed as he remembers that he forgot to deliver the alcohol Jin asked him to deliver. He hauls ass in his pajamas across Legacy to deliver it. Knocking on the lone door, Arkyn is very confused by the lack of... well anything attached to the door. Eight – full name Mistress Eight – thanks Arkyn and seems amused by his current state. She promises to tell Jin that she received the liquor the night before. Speaking of Jin, Yenush goes back to the tavern to find that Jin is... still asleep. Seeing some drunk patrons passed out, he wakes them up and kicks them out, swapping the tavern's status to "closed". After the bar has been cleaned, Yenush decides to see how much he can stack on Jin's face while he's out.
Cadence and Milo, meanwhile, head to the Ohn'Lee Clinic, the only clinic in Legacy. Small muttered curses echo from the other side of the door before it opens to reveal a very nervous, young half-elf. Viren is very skittish and nervous, quick to discredit himself as a healer. He would be grateful for any help! Particularly of the magical healing variety! When the duo asked about how busy the clinic gets, Viren mentioned that they tend to get more people when an MWD fails... though most cases are illness of the mind. In terms of compensation for the help, Viren mentioned that while he doesn't have rooms at the clinic, he's certain his sister could make some arrangements. Cadence promised to come back in the evening to relieve Viren of his tour of duty.
In the darkness of the mine, Teagan asks if the guy Jeff killed deserved it. Does a man need a reason to kill someone? You never wanted to kill someone? Teagan says no. Ever been responsible for someone's death? No, don't think so. Where are you from? Ragna. Jeff guffaws. Ragna? Isn't that the whole thing there? Offer up blood at the Coliseum and all that? Teagan pauses... do you think that would make her mad? Make Ragna mad? Make her haunt someone? Jeff pauses; he doesn't follow Ragna so he's not sure. You haunted? (maybe it is the WrAtH of gOd). Eventually, Teagan has a breakthrough with Jeff. Yeah, the guy he pushed over... he deserved it. There's a bit of pain in Jeff's eye. You're not bad... for a featherless. Teagan decides to take that as a compliment.
Arkyn and Aiaoue head over to the Church of The Void, where they are greeted by Valora. As they stand beneath the statue of a woman with flowing hair, Arkyn is suddenly struck with the realization that... this person is a real person. Aiaoue inquires about souls. Valora wagers that the Void Maiden could interfere with souls. In the past, there were instances where souls were removed from their body and destroyed... but that hasn't happened on Legacy. The Void Maiden would know, but she is currently off in the miasma. However, Valora cannot recall a time where the Void Maiden put a soul back. Arkyn mentions if a shard could make someone husk-like... put them in a coma? Valora thinks for a moment. If a shard was involved, it is more likely that there wouldn't be a body... or it would at least have the signs of destruction (similar to Valora's own body). Valora is uncertain when the Void Maiden will return, but she would gladly inform them when she does. Before departing, Aiaoue pauses to pray at the statue of Elis. She feels a faint sense of warmth as she departs.
Yenush waits until Jin finally wakes up. He's a bit taken aback to see Yenush fondling his bar, but mellows after a moment. Yenush offers his help – need someone to keep an eye out? Watch for people trying to steal your liquor? Jin refuses. At Yenush's insistence, Jin promises to consider it. Meanwhile, Cadence and Milo visit the fields. They are greated there by an Eladrin woman with dirt on her hands. If they know anyone with druidic talents, she'd appreciate if Cadence and Milo would send them her way. As they depart, she calls out: "May Tel'Rhea's light shine upon you." Sad that there isn't a lot of light through the miasma.
I Think We Should Go to the Academic Center
Once again as a full group, it is time to visit the Academic Center. The massive structure is composed of three galleons strapped together by a metal apparatus. The exterior is covered in dents, scratches, and plenty of graffitti. In faint writing the name of the vessel reads... The Floating Tit. Rune greets them and escorts them to meet Prof. Marcella Dunebrook, an older gnomish professor. She proceeds to vaguely mention that they are in need of brave, capable individuals to go down into the depths of the ocean to retrieve something for her and her colleague. Of course, should they agree, the group would be able to request a favor or service from the Academic Center. Dunebrook very plainly states that she, Khalil, and Ironborn all have funding from Dremora. If there is something from Dremora that you need... she can ensure it is acquired. Turning to Yenush, Dunebrook comments on his prosthetic and his weapons. If you will be in need of bullets, there is only one person who can help you: Ironborn. Aiaoue mentions that she heard Dunebrook likes old things. The gnomish professor's attitude shifted entirely, from formal to more relaxed and excited. Yes, of course! History is my true calling and tinkering the means! Have you seen the ruins at the center of town? They are splendid. Speaking of, should you find anything of note – a trinket or artifact – around Legacy, bring it to me.When the group agrees to descend in the Iron Delver (contingent upon Ironborn's return), Dunebrook begins to lead them through the Academic Center and to the office of Dr. Sol Khalil. As they enter, Cadence feels her ire (or perhaps not her ire) burn hot as she locks eyes with a woman dressed in blue. In return, her face morphs to pure disdain and agitation before she silently dismisses herself and departs the room.
100 years ago, there was miasma on Dremora and it was removed. How? Parvathian became a god. However, raising a mortal to divinity has not been achieved (and is perhaps a blasphemous thought for such a right is reserved for The One). However, perhaps a god could be restored. A divine soul returned and restored to divinity... hence removing the miasma. Dunebrook's efforts have uncovered a temple, but she suspects it is not the temple of the regional god. Based on what she has uncovered and structures uncovered beneath the water, Dunebrook suspects that the land Legacy is on was once underwater. If the patron deity of the region is sea-based, then perhaps their temple is similar to Varoona's and Sotto Varoona. Although Omen can get the Iron Delver to the general location, smaller creatures will be required to search the area for divine essence and preferably a body. Alternative solutions are posed to Dr. Khalil. Can the Dremoran gods not collectively make a god? Can we just borrow a Dremoran god for a time? Dr. Khalil dismisses the ideas, though mentions that he himself has considered them. From his research and work, this is the most viable route forward.
Inquiries are made about the other expedition group currently within the miasma abord the Iron Arrow. Dunebrook doesn't seem particularly interested in them (at least individually). However, she knows they are led by a gold dragonborn named Chiara. On top of the normal group, the Academic Center sent a technician to manage the Iron Arrow and a cleric supposedly volunteered to join the broader group. And then, of course, the Void Maiden is with them. Who knows what she is searching for exactly. Cadence asked if the cleric was a gnome? Yes, she was. What does the Void Maiden look like also? A kalashtar woman with long silver hair and blackened veins? Cadence nods, checking off some items from her mental list.
Milo (and Cadence) asked for rooms at the Academic Center in compensation. Dunebrook shows them to a first mate's quarters. They are a bit dusty, but definitely nicer than the rooms at the Welcoming Center. Arkyn attempts to look for Sayah... but cannot find the elusive woman. Arkyn tries to use a sending stone... it might have gone through... that sending bar is taking a while to load. Aiaoue and Yenush go to Eight. Yenush asks her to keep taking care of Ozti to which Eight agrees. Ozti apparently has her own room within Eight's home. Aiaoue asked to speak privately with Eight and so Eight invited Aiaoue in before shutting the door in Yenush's face... who didn't notice as he was on his way to Vendetta. Yenush apologized for what enforcers of the past had done. Vendetta revealed a scar and seemed to understand, but does not speak. The massive behemoth then continued to stare into the miasma. Apology accepted?
Aiaoue mentioned that her husband is unwell and those of Tel'Rhea, Ah'Shal, and the Library were unwilling or unable to help her (she got so many recipes from the Library though). Eight scoffs at the Dremoran pantheon (unclear on her opinion of Omen – ya just gotta know how to talk to him!). Despite initial reaction, Eight's expression softens. She sympathizes with the loss of a loved one, in any capacity. She typically needs blood to assist, but she will consider alternative options.
Will Ironborn return? Or will the Iron Delver fail before it can dive again?
