Davver Longbeard

Davver Longbeard

Davver Longbeard is an elderly halfling druid and retired member of the Emerald Enclave that resides in a small grove just outside of Saltmarsh.

History

Sometime before 1496, Davver Longbeard retired from the Emerald Enclave. Though he never gave up the organization's ideals, his growing age and desire for stability caused him to peacefully leave. Davver settled in Saltmarsh, growing a small grove just outside of town and provided a variety of herbs to its locals. Davver additionally grew marijuana for his personal use and for select residents in town, such as Micah Pierce.   In early 1495, Davver met Keyleth, a firbolg druid that was exiled from her clan. Davver helped Keyleth acclimate to Saltmarsh and helped to set her up with a job working at the town's fishmonger.   In the summer of 1496, Davver began noticing that there was an increase in malformed and dead fish in the water's near Saltmarsh, and that a few fishermen had gone missing. After the Heroes of Saltmarsh had proven themselves as fighters by capturing the smuggling vessel the Sea Ghost, Davver asked them to look into the strange occurances, but the Heroes were busy tracking down the source of the Sea Ghost's illicit weapons.   Later, in Elient of that year, the Heroes approached Davver to find a way to detect whether someone was a deep scion. Davver first instructed the party on how to craft a poison that could reveal a scion by clogging their gills. He then offered to cast Moonbeam on the party to determine if any of them were shapechangers, which forced Lyra to reveal her changeling true self. Davver then offered to beseech the Emerald Enclave for help with the sahuagin threatening town.   Davver later beame the caretaker of Gaelin Dragonmoor, a half-elf member of the Enclave who was branded with an unfinished Banesmark. Davver also relayed to the party that the Enclave was preoccupied with a brewing was between the fey Summer and Winter Courts. During this time, the Heroes of Saltmarsh gave Davver the Conch of Teleportation that was found at Grudd Haug, which Davver sent to the greater Enclave.   During that year's Monster's Eve, the Heroes of Saltmarsh used Davver to speak with a strange sheep that was trying to communicate with them. Davver told the party that the sheep was actually the town's wizard Keledek, who had been transformed into a sheep by his former apprentice Gideon Mistmoor using a wand of true polymorph, which Gideon then empowered to affect the entire town. After the Heroes were able to take Gideon's wand and transform Keledek back into a human, Keledek killed Gideon.   Davver later aided Mogran Oredelver, who was carrying Lyra's corpse after her death at the Twilight Monastery. Davver used Resurrection to bring Lyra back to life, but in doing so made her a human permenately.   Davver's continued efforts protecting and comforting Gaelin Dragonmoor was also instrumental in allowing the Heroes of Saltmarsh to clue into where the Aboleth S'gothgah was located, by having her answer yes and no questions by working with different flowers in his garden.   Following the end of the Banesmark Crisis, Davver returned to his quiet and relaxing retirement, though he kept more informed about the deeds of the greater Enclave should a similar crisis occur in the future. He was also often visited by Gaelin, who felt greatly indebted to the old druid for all of his help and guidance.
