Esme Heavensong

Esme Heavensong

Esme Heavensong, born Esme, is an aasimar bard most famous for her status as a member of the Breadwinners and for releasing the most well-known story of their exploits: The Wrath of Dragons.

History

Early Life

Esme was born in 1468 to human parents. From a young age she felt a calling to do good, which grew stronger when she learned of her aasimar nature. When Esme came of age, she left home to find her place in the world.   For years, Esme traveled alone as a bard, spreading good cheer where she went and helping those in need.   In 1492, Esme was in Waterdeep to participate in the Waterdeep Midsummer Fair. During a night of drinking before the event, Esme ended up in a one-night whirlwind romance with Mariana Goldfinch. During the Midsummer Fair, Esme witnessed the strange omen delivered to the crowd by a possessed Faro Farotass and aided the Breadwinners in stopping a Cult of the Dragon terror attack on a crowded street. Recognizing the danger posed by the cult and seeing that she could be of use to the adventurers, Esme asked to join the Breadwinners, becoming their final member.

Journeying with the Breadwinners

Esme aided the Breadwinners initially in their mission to retrieve the Wyrmspeaker Varram the Blue and was the one to kill the Green Wyrmspeaker Neronvain while fighting him and his dragon Chuth in the Misty Forest.   To win over the allegiance of the Metallic Dragon Council, Esme and the Breadwinners were sent to retrieve the Staff of Shadowfell Sundering from the ruins of Ken Asari. While fighting the death tyrant that protected the staff, Esme revealed to her companions her aasimar nature. Esme also participated in the failed mission to secure the Helm of the Red Dragon in Xonthal's Tower   Time and again, Esme proved her worth as a diplomat, in the Breadwinners dealings with the Council of Waterdeep, during the negotiations in Thay to secure the alliance of the Red Wizards, and to generally keep those around her calm.   At the end of the Great Dragon War, Esme participated in the attack on the new Green Wyrmspeaker, Amara, in the failed attempt to neutralize her, during the Battle of Hardbuckler. During the Battle at the Well of Dragons, Esme and the Breadwinners spearheaded the infiltration of the Well itself, slaying Don Rel and subsequently Bastion, who had been accumulating power during the war and absorbed all the souls at the Well of Dragons.

Life after the War

As a noted storyteller and bard, Esme took it upon herself to record the deeds of the Breadwinners to ensure the her and her compatriots good deeds would not be forgotten. The compiled work, entitled The Wrath of Dragons, is considered the definitive history on the Breadwinners, though it does contain certain exaggerations or otherwise tweak the story to be more narratively satisfying.   Esme has spent most of her life after the war performing and traveling. Of all the former Breadwinners, she has been the most persistent in "getting the band back together" and adventuring again, though her efforts have not yet born fruit.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Following the Great Dragon War, Esme tries to keep in contact with all the Breadwinners, though that is particularly difficult with the elusive Akhros the Ronin and Legolass Darkblade. Esme is part of the regular drinking group that comprises herself, Mariana Goldfinch, Ava of the Wilds, Eilidh Stormheart, and Tremor.   Despite her one night romance with Mariana, the two have not pursued one another romantically since then.
