Akhros the Ronin

Akhros (a.k.a. the Ronin)

Akhros the Ronin, born Akhros, is a wandering samurai, a former member of the Breadwinners adventuring group, and a hero of the Great Dragon War.

History

Early Life

Akhros was born in 1463. An orphan from a young age, Akhros grew up in an orphanage in Port Llast. When Akhros was a young man, he found purpose in his life when his orphanage was attacked by a marauding band of orcs. The orphanage was saved by members of the Order of the Gauntlet, and Akhros was awed by his saviors, resolving himself to join them when he could.   Akhros joined the Order of the Gauntlet in 1480 and took to the tasks he was assigned enthusiastically. However, it wasn't long before cracks began to show. Soon after joining, Akhros befriended a fellow recruit, Onthar Frume, but over time, Akhros became distraught over his friend's laziness, drunken escapades, and perceived lack of virtue. The two eventually had a major falling out, and, when Frume obtained the rank of Vindicator of Elturgard, Akhros quit the Order of the Gauntlet in disgust in 1487. For the next five years, Akhros attempted to do good for the people of the Sword Coast by wandering from place to place, helping people as he went, despite his gruff exterior. During his travels, Akhros obtained a Flame Tongue katana, which would become his signature weapon.   In early 1492, Akhros traveled to Stormbreak Island to investigate the mysterious disappearances of alchemists linked to the area. He was joined by the sorcerer Ava and eventually the adventurers Mariana Goldfinch, Legolass, Malachor, and Eilidh and uncovered a plot by the Cult of the Dragon to kidnap alchemists and use them to make gold for Tiamat's hoard. After stopping this plot, Akhros and Ava elected to join the other adventurers in stopping the Cult of the Dragon.   A few short weeks after leaving Stormbreak, Akhros aided fellow adventurer Mariana Goldfinch in deposing her father during the Siege of Salt Lake. Following the battle, the group of adventurers would formally name themselves the Breadwinners.

The Breadwinners

Akhros and the Breadwinners then joined Agent Viné Seraph of Force Grey in infiltrating the Cult of the Dragon's base within the Mere of Dead Men, where Akhros would nearly be killed by Pharblex Splattergoo after getting separated from his companions. Akhros also was present during the descent into Yssondreneth's Tomb, where Mariana Goldfinch bonded with the Gauntlet of the Black Dragon.   The Breadwinners had a run in with the Reverse Funnel System adventuring group in Silverymoon during their mission to steal the Book of Draconic Rituals.   Following this last mission, Akhros and the Breadwinners were given full authority to act on behalf of the newly formed Council of Waterdeep and the bard Esme Heavensong joined the Breadwinners. Working for the council, Akhros and the Breadwinners fought and slayed the white dragon Arauthator in his lair on Oyaviggaton. They captured Varram the Blue, one of the Cult of the Dragon's wyrmspeakers and later slayed Green Wyrmspeaker Neronvain and his dragon Chuth in the Misty Forest.   Between missions, Akhros and Onthar Frume, who was now one of the main Order of the Gauntlet representatives on the Council of Waterdeep, continued to butt heads. However, Akhros's stoic demeanor led to him never confronting Frume directly, allowing Frume to give a one-sided recounting of their past history to the rest of the Breadwinners.   In late 1492, Akhros assisted the Breadwinners in negotiating with the Metallic Dragon Council. To secure their alliance, the Breadwinners recovered the Staff of Shadowfell Sundering, which had been stolen from the copper dragon Tazmikella, from the ruins of Ken Asari. Akhros also joined the Breadwinners in clearing out Xonthal's Tower in the failed mission to recover the Helm of the Red Dragon.   During the Battle of Hardbuckler, Akhros participated in the attack on the new Green Wyrmspeaker, Amara, in the failed attempt to neutralize her.   During the Battle at the Well of Dragons, Ava and the Breadwinners spearheaded the infiltration of the Well itself, slaying Don Rel and subsequently Bastion, who had been accumulating power during the war and absorbed all the souls that were intended to resurrect Tiamat.

Life After the War

Following the Great Dragon War, Akhros became a well-known name across the Sword Coast. Akhros did not wait long before he decided to leave Waterdeep and resume wandering the world to help people in need. Sightings of Akhros have been reported in taverns across Western Faerun, though he never stays in one place for too long.

Mental characteristics

Accomplishments & Achievements

Due to his wandering nature and samurai style of swordplay, Akhros was given the epithet "the Ronin" by his contemporaries during the Great Dragon War. Akhros, like most things, had nothing to say about this, and so it stuck.

Personality Characteristics

Personality Quirks

Akhros's stoicism only regularly broke in the midst of battle, as the samurai was quite fond of one-liners. These one-liners included such gems as "time to light it up" when activating his Flame tongue sword, or "time to bring the house down" when collapsing a building.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Despite the year or so Akhros spent with the Breadwinners, the samurai never developed any particularly close bonds with his companions, as a result of his stoic and closed-off demeanor. He isn't on any bad-terms with any of his former companions, but he makes no effort to keep in touch.

Social Aptitude

Akhros is averse to nearly all social situations, preferring to let his blade do the talking with enemies and remain silent around friends. This has resulted in Akhros not gaining many allies in his travels, as he rarely takes the time to fully explain himself, especially if there's been a misunderstanding.

Wealth & Financial state

Akhros carries with him only the gold he can bring on his person, as he never knows where his traveling will take him.   Of all his possession, his sword, Flame Tongue, is his most treasured. Akhros uses the magical blade in nearly every fight and rarely is separated from it.
