Ava of the Wilds
Ava (a.k.a. Ava of the Wilds)
Ava of the Wilds, born simply Ava, is a former member of the adventuring party the Breadwinners, a hero of the Great Dragon War, and the namesake of the the town of Ava's Tower, where she currently resides.
Personal History
Early Life
Ava was born in a small gnomish village outside of a human settlement in the Sword Coast. Her parents were tinkerers, though Ava was always more drawn to nature. Her life was idyllic until she spontaneously developed magical aptitude. Unable to control her newfound powers, Ava accidentally set a small portion of her village on fire. Treated suspiciously by her neighbors, Ava chose to leave her home town. During her journeys, Ava encountered the bard Myriadus, who took the sheltered gnome under his wing, teaching her how to harness her powers. The two of them traveled together for quite some time, and while Ava's powers grew stronger, she was no closer to understanding their source. Eventually, Myriadus and Ava parted ways, though on friendly terms. The Breadwinners
In early 1492, Ava traveled to the island of Stormbreak, having heard of the disappearances that had been plaguing the seas around the area. She was joined by Akhros the Ronin, who had arrived at the island for the same reason. While there, the two of them encountered Mariana Goldfinch, Malachor Wolfsbane, Eilidh Stormheart, and Legolass Darkblade, who by happenstance had docked at the village of Stormbreak. Together, the six of them uncovered a plot by the Cult of the Dragon to kidnap and drug alchemists. Seeing the threat the Cult of the Dragon posed, Ava and Akhros joined the other four adventurers. This group of six soon name themselves the Breadwinners. Only a few weeks later, Ava would assist her companion Mariana Goldfinch in ending the Siege of Salt Lake by returning the Eye of Akadi. Ava joined the rest of the Breadwinners, alongside Agent Viné Seraph of Force Grey, in infiltrating the Cult of the Dragon's base within the Mere of Dead Men. The resulting fights, and the subsequent excursion in Yssondreneth's Tomb, would be the first of many occasions Ava would feel she was close to death and would highlight the lack of control she had over her powers. The Breadwinners had a run in with the Reverse Funnel System adventuring group in Silverymoon during their mission to steal the Book of Draconic Rituals. After this last mission, Ava and the Breadwinners were given full authority to act on behalf of the newly formed Council of Waterdeep. At their direction, the group engaged in many missions. In addition, the Breadwinners were joined by the bard Esme.Missions for the Council of Waterdeep
Ava and the Breadwinners fought and slayed the white dragon Arauthator in his lair on Oyaviggaton. They captured Varram the Blue, one of the Cult of the Dragon's Wyrmspeakers and later slayed the Green Wyrmspeaker Neronvain and his green dragon Chuth in the Misty Forest. Between missions, Ava researched her powers in Waterdeep, eventually discovering that the source of her magic was the Fey Wild itself. In late 1492, Ava assisted the Breadwinners in negotiating with the Metallic Dragon Council. To secure their alliance, the Breadwinners recovered the Staff of Shadowfell Sundering, which had been stolen from the copper dragon Tazmikella, from the ruins of Ken Asari. While securing the staff, Ava found that her own connection to the Fey Wild allowed her to neutralize the Shadowfell's influence, thus safely recovering the artifact. Ava joined the Breadwinners in clearing out Xonthal's Tower in the failed mission to recover the Helm of the Red Dragon. While there, she felt a kinship towards the town, promising its residents to return and help them rebuild once the war was over. She would also participate in the successful negotiations with the Red Wizards in Thay. During the Battle of Hardbuckler, Ava participated in the attack on the new Green Wyrmspeaker, Amara, in the failed attempt to neutralize her. During the Battle at the Well of Dragons, Ava and the Breadwinners spearheaded the infiltration of the Well itself, slaying Don Rel and subsequently Bastion, who had been accumulating power during the war and absorbed all the souls that were intended to resurrect Tiamat.Life After the War
Following the conclusion of the Great Dragon War, Ava fulfilled her promise to the people of Xonthal's Tower, helping them rebuild. Ava grew interested in a quiet life, one where death was all but assured on every adventure, and she resolved to settle in the Ava's Tower. The town renamed itself shortly after to Ava's Tower.Physical Description
Facial Features
Ava's striking resemblance to a garden gnome is fully captured by the white beard she sports on her face. Gnomes don't usually have beards. Some people speculate that it might be a result from her Wild Magic. No one knows for certain.
Mental characteristics
Accomplishments & Achievements
As a member of the Breadwinners, Ava is a household name in much of the Sword Coast, especially in Waterdeep.
Nowhere is Ava's name more powerful than in her own town of Ava's Tower. The adoration she experiences there is nothing short of hero worship, though this often makes Ava uncomfortable and she insists the town just go to her when they need help.
As stories of Ava's strange magic, and its origins in the Fey Wild, circulated throughout the Great Dragon War, members of the Council of Waterdeep armies began referring to Ava as "Ava of the Wilds," a moniker she still retains to this day.
Personality Characteristics
Vices & Personality flaws
Ava is well known among her friends for being a heavy drinker. During her time with the Breadwinners, Ava would spend most of her time in taverns or bars.
Now possessing her own tower, Ava has begun brewing her own alcohol, with varying results.
Personality Quirks
Ava is a collector of quarterstaves, having picked up the hobby during her time as a Breadwinner. During most of the Great Dragon War, she carried three quarterstaves with her at all times, an odd sight to many.
In addition, Ava was often noted for the pointed hats she wore.
Since the end of the war, Ava's hobby has only grown. An entire room of her tower is devoted entirely to the variety of staves she was acquired, whether personally or as gifts.
Social
Contacts & Relations
Though Ava keeps in contact with many of the former Breadwinners, she has maintained a particularly close relationship with Mariana Goldfinch, Esme Heavensong, and Eilidh Stormheart, all of whom often go drinking together when Ava visits Waterdeep. Ava has also kept a close friendship with the Force Grey agent Tremor, as the two both share a fondness for drinking.
