Xifira Mistmore
Xifira Mistmore
Xifira Mistmore was a halfling dhampir and member of the Lost Star Detectives, the group of adventurers that would ultimately end the Damnation of Elturel in 1498. However, Xifira died before that could happen, stabbed through the chest by her father, Janfire Mistmore, during the climax of the 1497 Siege of Helm's Shieldhall.
History
Xifira, alongside her twin brother Xanzor were, were born in Elturel in 1467, to Xanleigh and Janfire Mistmore. The Mistmores were an extremely close family, and Xifira grew up hearing the stories of her older brother Xoric's fights in the Hellriders and during the Reign of Vampires, Xanhorn's tales and stories from history, and Xopher's adventures before he was killed by a beholder in 1491, which affected Xifira greatly. The Mistmores were also a politically well-connected family. Janfire was one of the founding members of the Order of the Companion, eventually becoming its leader in the 1480s, and even as a child Xifira had personally met and been connected with High Observer Thavius Kreeg, the lord of Elturel. In contrast to her more reserved twin, Xifira was always outgoing and was born with a wanderlust that led to her being trained as a bard in her teens. In 1494, when Xifira was only 16, she journeyed out of Elturel to Baldur's Gate to stay with her father's brother Richlan and his illegitimate son Yenmo. What Xifira didn't know was that Richlan was connected to the criminal Guild of Baldur's Gate, and he arranged for her to help the Mourning Dove, the kingpin of Tumbledown, steal the Helm of Torm's Sight from the merchant ship Aremag's Blessing. Xifira did so, but was uncomfortable with the theft, and Janfire was furious when he found out, barring his brother from interacting with his family. However, on the 2nd of Eleasis 1497, Xifira and the other thieves gathered again in Elturel at the request of the Mourning Dove. Buddy Novs, the Elturian fence of the helm, stiffed the other thieves on payment and the Dove ordered the theives to retrieve it. Xifira, afraid of her invovlement in the raid getting out, agreed. However, that day was also the start of the Damnation of Elturel, when Elturel and everyone in it was teleported to Avernus. Xifira and the thieves were spared Elturel's fate as they were far below the city in its Maze. However, they believed that Elturel had been destroyed, and unsure of what to do, they joined a caravan of refugees heading towards Baldur's Gate. When the caravan arrived in Baldur's Gate, all, save for the Baldurian Alesine Zadava, were denied entry due to the ongoing crisis. Xifira and the others, now calling themselves the Lost Star Detectives, offered to help the Flaming Fist solve a series of murders in exchange for them letting the caravan inside. During the course of their investigation, the Detectives uncovered a large conspiracy led by Duke Thalamara Vanthampur, a Zarielite cultist. When the Detectives killed Vanthampur, they also discovered Thavius Kreeg and learned that he was also a Zarielite and that Elturel was in Avernus. In Candlekeep, the Detectives uncovered half of the pact that damned Elturel, and Xifira and the others resovled to travel into Avernus to try and save that city. Xifira and the others were first teleported into the Dock District by the wizard Traxigor, where they discovered the presumed dead High Rider Klav Ikaia leading a group of dhampirs in turning Shiarra's Market into a refuge. In the market, Xifira found her oldest brother Xodal and his family. Xifira remained in the market while the Detectives helped secure the Dock District, and was persuaded by Klad Ikaia to become a dhampir as well, hoping that its power would aid her in saving Elturel. In the High District, Xifira and the others found Xanhorn protecting the Elturel Library and were confronted by the infernal bounty hunter Azzimon in Mistmore Manor. While in the manor, the Detectives also learned of Janfire's role in the cult of Zariel and leading the Hell Knights that stalked the streets of Elturel. They also found and rescued Xifira's near cataonic mother, bringing her with Xanhorn to High Hall. Near the end of their adventures in Elturel, the Detectives all raced to stop Janfire and his Hell Knights from wiping out the last bastion of Hellrider resistance at the Siege of Helm's Shieldhall. At the basement of the Shield Hall, they confronted Janfire, who had been transformed into a bone devil and sought to kill his children so they would join him in infernal service. During the fight, Janfire managed to kill Xifira, piercing through her chest with his tail. Xifira turned to the group, telling them that she loved them, before falling to her death. As a result of the Creed Resolute, Xifira did rise again as a devil, but the goodness in her soul caused her to be reborn as a lemure, the lowest form of devil. She was brought by the forces of Zariel to the Battle of Elturel in 1498 to be used as a bargaining chip with the Detectives, but wasn't recognized by Kinsey Eridanus, who killed her once and for all during the fighting, putting her soul to rest.
