Beverley Fletcher
Deep Slip
Lieutenant-Colonel Beverley Christina Fletcher, DSM** MM LVO (a.k.a. Mamma Bear)
When the commanding officer of the Fusiliers, Colonel Beverley Fletcher, was a captain and a battalion-level logistics officer in the 8th battalion, Ontario Light Infantry Regiment, she found herself stranded for 249 days in the rainforest wastes of Bravo King 3, a barely M class planet around a red dwarf, 2000 light years edgewise from Earth. It was the year 2968, and on her way back from leave, from the New Zealand front, taken on Bravo King 2, the shuttle she was riding on to get to the orbital station around BK 4 crash-landed after catastrophic multiple system failures, caused by an unexpected solar flare. She was alone for all of those 249 days, because the pilot had died on impact. His death was caused by the inertial dampers being offline due to the flare and the pilot had no time to strap into his G seat. Rather than give up and die, Beverley gathered all of the equipment she needed from the carcass of the crashed shuttle, and over the next couple of months trekked and canoed the 1200 miles to the Deep Space Network (the series of radio telescopes that allow for communications across the Commonwealth) outpost on BK3. As this was a exemplary (and successful) survival story, Beverley was given a Military Medal for her troubles as well as a promotion to Major and made Adjutant of the 4th battalion, The Ontario Light Infantry Regiment.

Personal history
Born in 2935, Beverly Fletcher is the only child of an immunologist and a biomedical scientist living on Edmonton, Canada, where she spent all of her childhood. Much like Colonel Alastair Macgregor, she wanted to be an NHS Biomedical scientist, following in the footsteps of her beloved parents. However, after completing her biomedical degree she decided that she wanted to go and see the galaxy, before she settled down. Therefore, it was in that vein, that she simply walked out of her parents' house, aged 24, one night and went hitchhiking across the galaxy. Eventually, after only 4 months, she ended up in the New Zealand sector, where she worked as a biomedical scientist, staying there for four years, in rough and ready civilian frontier clinics as a haematologist. Due to her nature, she volunteered for clinics on planets that were active war zones. This habit lead to Beverley seeing the worst of the destruction that the war with the Tarquin was causing. Angry and desperate to do something, Beverley, now aged 28, returned home to Edmonton, where she joined the Ontario Light Infantry as a line officer. The Ontario, like the Gloucestershire, Nevadan, 82nd Highland and West Virginian Light Infantry Regiments, was kept on the frontlines, as part of the 9th CAA, for all of the retreat and subsequent counter-attack through New Zealander space (about 15 years). This, obscenely, high tempo of operations allowed Beverley to go from a lowly 2nd Lieutenant to Major in just 10 years, practically a promotion every two years, a staggering speed, even with her 3/4s of a year spent stuck on BK3.
It was during her time as the Adjutant to the 4th battalion, part of her reward for surviving BK 3, that she met Macgregor, who had just been made the S-3 for the Royal Gloucestershire's. They had a relatively close working relationship, due to a similar personal history, and the constant shoring up of RGLIR positions, the more experienced unit, by the OLIR because of the worsening lack of manpower within the RGLIR. It was because of this time, that when Macgregor was looking for an officer to lead 6th section (North America) of the Queen's Own Anti-Revolutionary Company Beverley was his first choice, as she was when he was looking for officers for the Solent Corps. Despite Lieutenant-Colonel Richard Bartlett having seniority and being a former heavy infantry commander, whilst Beverley had been a career light infantry officer, when she was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel she was also given command of the Fusilier regiment of the Corps. This was due, in part, because she was the next most experienced officer after Richard, in part, because she is completely loyal and trusted by Alastair as his second oldest, still living, friend. But, most importantly, she didn't come with Alice Locke attached. Finally, giving her own command was also an apology for not promoting her to LTC in 2979 after the 2nd American Revolution.
