Duchy of Ammand
The Duchy of Ammand is one of the two duchies of Ader, spanning the Aderian Bank and its peninsula; with the Grand Duchy of Arkford controlling The Green Crest and some parts of The Gold Coast, the duchy of Ammand is considerably smaller than Arkford, which covers an area easily twice as big. The duchy was historically, and still is, the seat of power in the Kingdom of Ader; with easy access to both Lake Kadia and the Red Ocean, and the impenetrable Ammand Keep overseeing the capital, the religious duchy is known for its constant prosperity, even through wars.
Structure
The duchy is ruled by the heir to the throne of Sovereign of Ader as soon as they come of age; if no heir came of age yet, the duchy is formally ruled by the Ascendant of Ader. Due to practical reasons however, the de-facto ruler is the Sovereign of Ader during this time.
Trade & Transport
The duchy of Ammand is small in size, taking no more than two days to cross; this, together with its somewhat ceremonial existence and role in politics, lend to the duchy having a centralized palace economy. All products, materials, foods, and commodities are transported to the palace of Ammand, where they are sorted and redistributed among the populace after taxes are imposed; during the sorting, the number and quality of items are recorded in order to spot trends or sudden changes that may require involvement.
A notable outcome of this system is the lack of trade the entire duchy, excluding the capital, Estubor, and Lanorbor (to a certain extent), with the majority of rural communities comprising of no more than a few families or an abbey. Denizens are unlikely to carry any sort of coinage, as they are provided a portion of all products, including clothing, jewelry, and have their tools replenished when needed.
