Hyperluminal - Class Heavy Destroyer
A class of Ultra-Accelerative heavy destroyer used by the Hyperion Federation.
These ships are designed to form a core part of Hyperion Federation elite space forces and to add heavier firepower to these forces. By keeping most of the interior submerged in water, these ships can handle far greater acceleration rates than other ships because most of the weight of the crew is transferred to the water. However, only very few can be built as they require aquatic species to crew. Due to this, some individuals have begun to see those species as superior, so the Hyperion Ethics Committee has placed a somewhat light ban on these ships. They are still used commonly, but this makes many commanders quite reluctant to deploy them in practice.
The Hyperluminal - class is also somewhat lacking on ewar technologies in order to make room for other systems, but it is designed to be supported by other ships which surely have these types of weapons implemented anyway. With a length of 2.6 km, they can carry heavier firepower than the Boson - Class Destroyer, but does not have a spinal photon cannon. Instead, it has more regular High Energy Turret Hardpoints. They are also significantly faster than a Boson. Sometimes AIs like Sentient Robots are used to pilot them due to the sheer amount of information that can be present (e.g. when evading a large amount of fire) and the reaction times needed. Sentient Robots are designed to be submersible.
