Kumuldor (Koom-Uwl-Dor)

Creation Leads to Strength

Introduction:

The Kumuldor Region is the area surrounding the Kyrr Mountains. It contains the Sandshield, Kumuldor Heights, and Vurth Valley regions. The domain of Kumuldor is home to the Gold Dwarves of Utican and several other ancestries, notably Odion humans from the west, Antheran Leonin from the south, and the once nomadic elves to the southeast. Under the current rule of the Elders of Kumuldor, only Dwarves are permitted to live permanently within the capital stronghold of Kumuldor.

Geography

Most of Kumuldor is dominated by the Kyrr Mountain and the smaller mountain ranges that surround it. Within these mountains there are many thick forests. The south slopes of the Kyrr mountain are adjaccent to an open savanah. The eastern and northern slopes border the thick forests of the Orc Domain. And the western slopes border the Abbas Wastes. The peaks of the Kyrr Mountain is covered in snow year round. When this snow melts it runs down the mountain forming the Harr River.

History

Kumuldor was founded by the Gold Dwarves that remained behind when the Hellena Empire withdrew from Utican. These Gold Dwarves initially settled in the northern part of the continent and anticipated forming societies with the other remaining legionairres that remained behind. This expectation was not met when the Orc Domain was formed and the Orcs Nobles known as the Eupitridae seized control in northern Utican. Unwilling to live under the exclusive rule of another ancestry, a number of Gold Dwarf clans traveled to the Kyrr Mountain in the center of Utican.   Once the Gold Dwarves arrived they began to delve into the mountain. Fortune favored these Dwarves as they struck a number of rich mineral deposits that allowed them to build wealth and a new Dwarven stronghold. The founders claim that they were led to the rich veins of ore by a radiant golden ram that they believed to be an avatar of Dumathoin or Moradin. The stronghold that formed around the mines was named Kumuldor after the leader of the Gold Dwarves that founded the mountain stronghold, Kumul Goldeneye. As the Stronghold's wealth and influence grew a number of smaller forts and villages were established along the mountain slopes and plateaus. In time the area surrounding the Kyrr Mountains came to be known collectively as Kumuldor.   In present day Kumuldor is a prosperous region. The minerals found by those initial Gold Dwarves are far from depleted and the wealth from the mines continues to flow. In recent years Kumuldor has formed strong bonds with the Odion of the eastern Abbas Wastes and has engaged in lucrative trade with the desert dwelling humans. Kumuldor strugles with marauding hordes of Centaurs from the Shifting Badlands to the southeast. The Centaurs have pushed the once nomadic peoples of the Shifting Badlands into Kumuldor and created a refugee crisis. Many of the refugees have settled in a town called Imeana in the Harr River Valley.
