Carrigan House

The Carrigan House is the largest inn in Lorancourt. Located right on the High Street and only a few hundred yards from the Castle Hill gatehouse, it is the preeminent establishment for food, drink and entertainment for travelers and visitors to the city. The House has 26 comfortable rooms for rent, a bathhouse, a stable and farrier, and one of the largest dining halls in the entire duchy. The only room bigger than the Great Hall at the House is the kitchens.   It is owned and operated by Edina Doddle, a 65-year-old halfling woman who is rumored to have saved the Duke's life 20 years earlier. She is unwed and manages the House with 16 hired hands.

Purpose / Function

The largest inn in the city, offering many comfortable rooms, delicious food and drink, popular entertainment and all the amenities one can hope for when traveling.

Denizens

Owned by Edina Doddle and run by her oldest daughter, Elissa.  Edina's other children (two more daughters and a son) along with their families also work at the House in various capacities.

Architecture

A sprawling four story post-and-beam structure with a huge dining hall that has a ceiling height of 25'.  Large windows let in copious sunlight during the day, and dozens of bright oil lamps light the room at night.

History

When Edina's husband Bertram died of a stroke ten years ago, Duke Lomain paid all of the remaining debts that the couple owed and granted Edina the title of "Lady of the Realm".  This title brings a stipend of 2,500 guilders annually and exempts her froma ll tithes and taxes for the remainder of her life.  Edina chose to move her family to the City of Lorancourt where she purchased a large plot of land within the new city walls and built the House.  In the intervening years, Carrigan House has grown to become a landmark of the busy and vibrant city.

Tourism

Carrigan House is as popular with the locals as it is with travelers.  Dinners and drinks at the House are much anticipated by many a businessman, trades woman or watch soldier ending their day.  There are cheaper places to eat and drink, but none better and many are more expensive.
