Cernan Benarden

Rison, Lord Cernan Benarden

Cernan Benarden is the only surviving son of Flann Benarden, the Ryuri of the Benarden Clan. He is a 28-year-old Human and the heir appearent to the title of Ryuri Benarden on the death of his father.   Cernan was born the younger of two sons to Flan and his wife, Effa Daltyr.  At the age of 16, Cernan was with his older brother, the Rison Benarden (heir to the Ryuri), Calum, at a clan festival being held in the territory of the Dolwyn Clan.  The festival brought people from all walks of life to participate in and enjoy games of strength, skill, singing and riddling.  Mounds of fine food and gallons of drink were available to all.  While there, the brothers encountered the son of the newly elevated Ryuri Dalshar, Rison Rian Dalshar.  At first, the three young men were getting along very well, laughing and drinking and taking in all the sights and sounds of the festival.  At some point, an argument broke out between Rian and Calum, and the tempers of both men became dangerously heated.  Cernan was seen by many observers to do all he could to seperate the angry young men and stop the argument, but in the end Rian stabbed Calum in the neck from behind.  As Calum lay bleeding to death in front of a stunned crowd of onlookers, Rian continued to shout insults at the dying man.  It was then that Cernan drew his sword, screamed a challenge to the unhearing Rian, and drove his sword through the man's back, killing him instantly.   The Ryuri Dolwyn conducted a thorough investigation of the fight, taking two full days to hear the testimony of dozens of witnesses to the killings, and declared Calum murdered by Rian's hand, and Cernan justified in claiming the right of wayte (blood price) in killing the killer of his brother.  Since that day, the Benarden Clan and the Dalshar Clan have been in a state of open war.

Mental characteristics

Morality & Philosophy

Over the course of the last 12 years, Cernan has sent many letters to the Ryuri Dalshar stating that he would pay the wayte price for Rian Dalshar's life in gold or face a hand-picked champion of the clan in a wayte duel, just to end the feud between two of the great houses of Colo... but Bran Dalshar refuses to consider it.  To acknowledge or accept such an offer would be to give credence to the claim that Rian acted dishonorably and did, in fact, murder Calum Benarden.  The Ryuri would rather die first.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Cernan knows he is the reason that his clan and the Dalshar have been fighting for more than a decade, and this knowledge weighs on his soul.  He has done all he could to rebuild relations with the Dalshar, but the clan king will take nothing less than his head in payment for his own son's life.
