Maklar am Maxalli

His Grace, Grand Baron and Prince Maklar am Maxalli (a.k.a. Hard Hand)

Second son of Josso Thunderfist and brother of King Lothar. First Grand Baron of Wessridge.   Most often remembered as a legendary hero of the The Second Great Orc War of 146 AF, Maklar was often proudly credited with single-handedly saving the Kingdom of Imesse from destruction and ruin by the invading horde by his King and brother, Lothar.  Raised to the title of Grand Baron by Lothar in 150 AF, Maklar ruled from the devestated City of Wessridge for 18 years.  He dedicated his efforts to rebuilding and growing the city and the barony, even when it caused difficulty with his nephew, King Maxin.   His life and deeds are still sung of today in the halls and homes of the residents of Wessridge, and much of what the city and barony are now can be directly credited to his visions.

Personal history

Born four years younger than his brother Lothar, Maklar was always the larger and stronger of the two sons of Josso Thunderfist.  Maklar was a broad, heavily muscled man that was never a very good horseman but was an exceptional swordsman and favored the large great sword for his personal weapon.   Maklar's legendary status began with his leadership and command of a large portion of the Imessian forces fighting the The Great Orc invasion of 146 AF.  It was cemented when, in the spring of 149 AF, he led his 12,000 force of mostly seasoned infantry to the last seriosuly occupied city in the west:  Stonehold.  What little remained of the city of Stonehold was fortified by more than 9,000 raging Orcs led by a warlord named Nizkhacha'ak.  This Orc was more than 7' tall and tales say it weighed more than 450 lbs.  It wielded a long iron-tipped spear in one hand and a huge double-bit war axe in the other.  Clad in the skins of dead humans, Niskhacha'ak walked out of the ruined gates of Stonehold, alone and unafraid, to challenge the newly arrived Imessian army.  Maklar, ignoring the pleas and cries of his aides and commanders, took up his great sword and marched out to meet the challenge.   With the two armies only a scant hundred yards apart, Maklar and Niskhcha'ak faced off.  The fight was long and grueling, lasting more than an hour.  Maklar seemed to tire faster than the larger and stronger Orc, but he landed two decidedly hard blows to the beast that brought the match to something much closer to even.  Eventually, Maklar's great sword was broken by the Orc's axe, and the battle seemed over.  Maklar found some reserve of strength, rage or both and somehow managed to get inside the reach of the massive Orc's arms and began to pummel the huge monster's face with his steel gauntleted hand.  After five blows, Niskhacha'ak fell backwards to the ground, and after ten blows his skull cracked open above his brow.  Maklar then took the Orc's axe and cut off the head, impailed it onto the Orc's spear and used it as a banner to rally his forces and charge the stunned Orc army.   By sunset, the ruined city was clear of Orcs and the war was essentially over.  Lothar, who was miles away recovering from wounds received previously, was said to have wept with pride in his younger brother.  To this day, the symbol of the Grand Barony is a clenched steel gauntlet raised in victory.
