The Pig Stye

A very popular local tavern where roast pork is served on fresh bread with a large mug of ale. No rooms are available here, and no other fare is offered. They start serving at noon, and don't stop till the pork is gone.

Purpose / Function

The Pig Stye is a tavern that serves poast pork on fresh bread with a huge mug of quality ale. No other food is offered, no other drinks are served, and no rooms or services are available. It is one half of a pork butchery operation owned and operated by the Hoggins brothers, Artimer and Alton Hoggins

Design

The building is constructed in two long, double storied wings.  One wing that faces the street is the Pig Stye, where the food is served.  The other wing is the butchery, where up to 10 hogs a day are processed into sausage, bacon, hams and pack cuts ready to be salted and packed in barrels.

Architecture

The Pig Stye is one half of a large L-shaped building that has a large open space with three room-length trestle tables and bench seating.  White-washed stone walls and a tall peaked roof are lit with many bright oil lamps.  There are two narrow doors, and a single huge hearth at one end of the room where the pigs are roasted slowly over a huge bed of hardwood coals.  At the other end of the room are three large stone faced ovens where the bread is baked fresh every day.
