Shifter

The origins of the race known as Shifters is somewhat shrouded in mystery. Some say their ancestors were Humans who interbred with Lycanthropes who were in their human forms. Others say they were humans who followed The Totems or the Primal Spirits and became more marked by the wilderness by association. Still others think that the energies of the Feywild infected a group of humans and made them part beast.
Whatever the truth of their origins, Shifters remain a race clearly in touch with their more primal sides. They most commonly refer to themselves as Longtooth or Razorclaw shifters, referencing the particular way in which they become more feral when endangered. There are rumored to be other types of shifters, but they must be far more rare.
Shifters are most commonly found in Neldorin’s more northerly regions, near where the Everfrost Mountains begin, although they will dwell in any wild and remote place. It’s rare to find shifters in any great numbers in cities. They are sometimes found roaming with wolves or mountain cats as hunting partners, or grouped into hunting parties with Elves, who accept them more readily than they will many other races, or Goliaths, with whom they share a fondness for competition. They most commonly follow The Totems or the Primal Spirits, but many who dwell near the Summerlund borders also worship The Twelve.
