Inhabitants have adapted stringent anti-contamination protocols; towns and installations act as sanctuaries where the dust is meticulously scrubbed away before entry.
  Smoug’s mineral wealth, especially its iron, proved too tempting to ignore, spurring extensive colonization and the opening of numerous mines. This influx of settlers birthed a modest yet vital economy, centered on mining and the myriad industries that support it. A population of over 40 million toils within this iron labyrinth, where the produce of their labor feeds not only local factories but also flows outward along the Spinward Main to Tenalphi and Adabicci.
  Despite its forbidding environment, Smoug sustains life through ingenuity. Hydroponic towers rise defiantly against the desolation, nurturing crops such as gedro petal, igzazi, and puante—spices that bring flavor to the bland existence of its denizens. Sword Worlder warships, too, are occasional visitors, their presence a blend of tension and goodwill, fostering an uneasy but profitable cross-border trade.
