White Feather Trading
Founded in 980 ATS by Donatello Zekon, White Feather Trading is located at the south-west edge of Landow. It is the main trade shop and the lifeblood for the town and the bulk of the southern Salvae Empire as a whole. Zekon has cornered the market on the trade routes that pass through the area heading towards the capital to the North, the Raja'ri Territories to the South, and The Gold Plains to the East as well as some seafaring contacts on the coasts of Western Salvae. Due to his expertise and knowledge of large-scale trading for the regional settlements as well as his proclivity for rarities and oddities that stumble into his shop by passing adventurers, White Feather Trading has made Zekon fairly important in region's political landscape.
The shop is three-stories, the main shop floor at ground level, a basement storage area, and the second-floor, upstairs living quarters of Zekon and his daughter Carissa.
The building is made of solid oak wood, with a terracotta tiled roof, and has a pair of large windows that allow for natural light to fill the store during the day. Over the door is a hanging image of a White Dove surrounded by dark green laurels and reads “White Feather Trading”.
Stepping into the main shop floor of White Feather Trading is like entering a treasure trove of exotic and rare goods from across Kalbela. The counter is a dark and gleaming wooden expanse that stretches along the back wall, behind which either of the Zekons, can be seen bargaining with patrons and answering their questions with a friendly and knowledgeable air. The shelves are piled high with an array of items that sparkle and gleam in the sunlight streaming in through large windows. Spices, herbs, bolts of cloth, precious gemstones, and metals all compete for the eye's attention, with a hint of magical aura radiating from trinkets that only a discerning eye could spot. The air is thick with the heady scents of spices and perfumes that tickle the senses. The floor is smooth and polished, made of flagstones and the walls are adorned with tapestries and maps of the local area and beyond, adding an adventurous touch to the whole atmosphere. The shop is always alive with activity, patrons haggling with the Zekons, as wayward adventurers peruse the small selection of weapons and armor.
Down the staircase at the back of the shop leads to the basement storage room of White Feather Trading is a dimly-lit cavern of supplies and curiosities. The stone walls and floors are cool to the touch, but the air is alive with the scents of spices, perfumes, and the occasional hint of something enchanted. The shelves and crates that line the room are stacked with all manner of goods, from bolts of cloth to precious gemstones and metals, but also some magical trinkets. Along one wall, there is a workbench where items and records are checked and prepared before being moved to the main shop floor. The room is illuminated by silent, heatless magical flames that cast an inviting glow over the space. The support beams, made of heavy timbers, keeping the entire structure stable and can withstand the weight of all the goods and supplies. It's a humble space, but the basement storage room is an essential part of the operation, providing the goods and supplies that keep the shop running smoothly.
Up the spiral stairs leads to the upper level, down the hall to the west is Donatello's room and to the east, Carissa's.
Carissa's room is a sanctuary of calm, its walls painted in soft shades of pale greens, creating a soothing and natural ambiance. On the walls, there might be a few small maps or star charts, and two smaller tapestries. The first tapestry depicts a serene and idyllic scene of a Unicorn gracefully drinking from a crystalline lake, surrounded by lush greenery and the background painted with a golden sunset. The second tapestry illustrates a beautiful and mystical scene of Elven waystones surrounded by swirling Will-o-wisps, radiating with a soft, ethereal light. The tapestries bring a touch of magic and wonder to the room, reflecting Carissa's interest and connection to the elven heritage and their nature-related culture.
Her bed is made of white linens, adorned with fluffy pillows and draping canopy. It’s simple but elegant, with a small bookcase filled with her favorite novels and research materials, with a strong emphasis on history and lore. A writing desk is tucked into the corner where she spends most of her time when not in the store. A small indoor herb garden on the windowsill brings the outdoors in, adding a touch of nature and reminiscent of her half-elven heritage. The room is immaculately kept and organized and is a place that makes her feel safe, comfortable, and at home.
The building also has a large attached barn, which is made of the same solid oak wood as the main building, has stalls for beasts of burden, such as horses and mules, as well as a few wagons for transportation of goods. The company, and the Zekons, also owns just over an acre of pasture just outside the town's walls, where the animals are put out when they are not being used.
