Ruled: 1305 - 1347
Overview
Baraton VII was a beloved ruler, who returned to the traditional Blakfort values of Honesty and Temperate mind. He did inherit the Impatiance of his father however and this had caused him issues during his rule. Similarly to his father, he was a Handsome king, but he was a Quick-Witted Trickster and had a Robust physique.Early Reign
He inherited two wars from his father and didn't hesitate to take command of his new armies. In 1306, his armies won the Battle for Kuyuruk and the Battle of the Targ Mountains against the Paladellian and Atacodian armies respectively. A year later, he crushed the rest of the Paladellian army at the Battle of Norlawich and thwarted an uprising in Austium with ease. During the war, he started to show symptoms of Jacob's Curse in 1311, but recovered despite the unavailability of Strunitor Braidbeard thanks to his excellent health. In 1312, the Atacodian noble who claimed Blakfort lands died, ending his war. The constant guerilla actions and reluctance of Palrian population managed to win quite a few years for the King of Paladell. To make matters worse, the long war caused civil unrest in many cities and lead to a peasant rebellion in Hokartus in 1315. A year later, the war ended as Baraton had to surrender to stop the rebellions in his kingdom. The Price of Blood
Even though he managed to recover from the effects of Jacob's Curse, he called upon Strunitor Braidbeard and ordered him to cure his ailment. The mage succeeded according to messengers sent out into the kingdom, but the king refused to show his face to anyone but his closest vassals. This act of self-sacrifice Earned him the Respect of his people as he was willing to be experimented on to cure the age-old curse of the Blakfort Dynasty. In 1326, his wife died from Jacob's Curse, setting a worrying precedent of non-Blakfort members suffering from the disease. In 1327, news of the unified orc hordes died down after decades of worrying information. 4 years later, the duchy of Upper Krovia as well as Upper Brica fell into the hands of the Kerevian King thanks to some inheritance issues. As none of Brica was a part of the Blakfort Kingdom anymore, Baraton decided to destroy his title as the King of Brica. The 7th Holy War
Following another 4 years of peace, the Probare began organizing another Holy War in the name of the Order. This time, the members of the Order would go on the offensive against the Soul Jar. While Baraton sent his armies to the war, he stayed at home, leaving his army under the command of his Marshall. Blakfort forces managed to secure some early victories in the war and managed to capture the cities of Sinjar and Mosul, but the soldiers of the enemy soon arrived in large numbers to fight off the invaders. After a few months of maneuvering, the Great Battle of Irbil took place near the fortress of Irbil. The members of the Order numbered 31 thousand troops, while their opposition had half of that. Despite their vast numerical advantage, the Order lost ~9400 fighters while only killing ~4700 soldiers. The battle weakened the Soul Jar forces dramatically, allowing a basically unhindered Order to capture their cities. In 1341, the city of Irbil and the mountain fortress of Tall Haftun fell and the Holy War ended in a swift victory. Due to their contributions in the war - and to a certain extent, tradition - the Probare named the Blakfort Kingdom as the most influential member of the Holy War, allowing them to nominate a ruler for the throne of the newly created Righteous Kingdom of Sojazira. Baraton named his daughter, Dorota Blakfort as the Righteous Queen of Sojazira, further increasing the number of titles held by the dynasty.End of his Reign
In 1345, the King of Atacodia wanted to take East Codager from the Blakfort throne. Baraton was determined to keep the area in his family's possession and he called all of his allies to aid him. His army clashed with the Atacodian army at Merilacus in the same year. The battle was close as the two forces were evenly matched, but eventually, the superior quality of Blakfort troops won the day. For the rest of the war, the Atacodian army was on the backfoot and despite razing a few towns and forts on their entire border, they didn't pose a real threat. After capturing Merilacus, the Blakfort army marched towards the Atacodian capital in an attempt to sack it. The Atacodian army met Baraton's forces at the gates of their capital, but they weren't enough to stop them. With their capital sacked and the war-target captured by their enemy, the Atacodians were forced to surrender in 1347.
Unfortunately for Baraton, he died under suspicious circumstances a few weeks later with no way to revive him.
