Isle of Oriab

Seat of Baharna, Great Ngranek, and Yath

A vast island in the southern seas of the Dreamlands. While sparsely inhabited, Oriab is an important waypoint on many trading routes due to the major port of Baharna, whose residents trade fine earthenware and experienced sailors with vessels from Dylath-Leen and Celephaïs both.   At the center of Oriab, a great volcano called Ngranek rises high into the sky. The magma and minerals mined from this peak are the secret behind Baharna's unique craftsmanship. Gatherers and adventurers alike are wary of climbing too high, however, for caves frequented by night-gaunts burrow into Ngranek's upper-reaches. It's thought that these tunnels delve down beneath the surface of the Dreamlands itself, ultimately opening into The Abyss. On one side of the great volcano, an immense face has been carved into the stone. Its features are almost human, but not quite. Legend has it that this effigy represents the Great Ones of Kadath, who once called Oriab home.   Save for the hunting night-gaunts and bloodsucking Wamps that dwell in the ruins of shunned Tyrhhia across Lake Yath, a traveler is not likely to encounter much of particular danger on Oriab. It's considered one of the more stable locations in the Dreamlands and, as many Earthly mystics have now discovered, conveniently located approximate Japan on the other side of the wall of sleep.
