Tirdal (ˈtir-ˈdäl , "Teer-doll")
The Kingdom of Tirdal is one of Kefrad's biggest rivals. As neighboring country of comparable power and influence, the two countries have had a rocky history. Tirdans are a strong and proud people who resisted Kefrad's attempts to conquer them throughout the years and have even attempted to conquer Kefrad themselves. This has created a long and bloody history of conflict between the two. To this day, though there is peace, they keep a wary eye on each other preparing when one of them tires of the current status quo.
Tirdans are fiercely independent, even amongst their own kind. The kingdom is divided out into several states, each of which is allowed to handle its own internal affairs and govern itself for the most part. Each state is still held accountable at a higher level to the king or queen, which is elected once the previous monarch leaves the position. The monarch is elected for life but may willingly step down or can be removed should the states come together and deem the monarch unfit to continue their rule. New monarchs are elected from among the noble families that run each state, typically creating a cycle of power that rotates amongst the states.
Tirdal's economic strength lies mostly in its logging industry as it is covered in vast and plentiful forests. That coupled with some of the powerful rivers that flow from the depths of these forests to the coast allows Tirdal to move lumber quickly and efficiently. Bordering Vahlrim, Kefrad, and the Kergrem Empire has also made Tirdal a country of fighters. With potential enemies on three fronts, Tirdal maintains a powerful military and constantly patrols its borders.
