The Xanids are an advanced sentient species native to the
Typhon Expanse in the Alpha Quadrant. They have been a warp-capable species for centuries however their once expansive empire is showing signs of decline in recent times.
History
The Xanid species, holds a legacy stretching back millennia. Renowned as one of the first civilizations in the quadrant to develop warp technology, the Xanids rapidly expanded their dominion, subjugating several other species to serve as slaves and servants. The
Tzynn,
Djomar,
Kel-Azaan,
Scyldari, and
Yondar were among those oppressed, toiling for the Xanids while the ruling class grew increasingly decadent and spoiled.
Tensions began to escalate in 2250 when the Djomar started to question their subjugation, leading to brutal repression by the Xanid authorities. However, it was the year 2270 that marked a turning point. A massive slave strike evolved into a grand rebellion, with almost all the servants and slaves breaking free from Xanid control. Among the critical defections were the Kel-Azaan slaves, responsible for operating the Xanid military. This forced the Xanid government to relent and grant their former subjects the long-awaited freedom.
Meanwhile,
Orbis Customer Synergies, a powerful megacorporation within Xanid space, steadily expanded its influence through relentless lobbying, gaining significant autonomy and operating independently from the Xanid government since 2301.
Biology
Physically, the Xanids resemble humanoid reptilians. While they share some similarities with Humans, such as overall body structure, they possess distinct characteristics. Their heads are bulbous and bald with leathery skin and enlarged eyes.
Xanids are highly adaptable and have utilized cybernetic enhancements to an extensive degree, resulting in a wide array of abilities among individuals. Cybernetic enhancements are sought-after relics from their more technologically advanced past, allowing capabilities such as extreme accuracy, teleportation, laser and flame projection, and other technological marvels. Such cybernetics are often passed down through generations, forming unique family legacies.
Society & Culture
Xanid society revolves around opulence, luxury, and endless entertainment. Many Xanids have amassed unimaginable wealth and possessions from exploiting other races, granting entire generations the luxury of unproductive leisure. Fads in entertainment and fashion dominate their culture, with an internal race to stay ahead of each fleeting trend.
The yearly Stardust Extravaganza stands as a legendary spectacle, combining a talent show with dramatic competitions, where participants might sabotage or team up with one another. This event dominates the news cycle each season, attracting attention and adoration.
Politically, Xanid government follows a Suzerainty model. Regions generally enjoy autonomy, but for military and foreign affairs, they defer to a central monarchy. Presently,
King Diocourides and
Queen Luella rule the Xanids, but their calendars are usually occupied with parties and vacations, resulting in a stagnant government unable to handle emergencies.
Xanid society remains in denial about their decline, viewing themselves as victims of the slave rebellion. They perpetuate the notion that they were bringing civilization to their subjects, only to be rejected by what they perceive as barbaric and inferior races.
Unfortunately, the Xanid civilization is in a state of decline. Their advanced technology, once a hallmark of their society, now faces depletion as they lack the ability to produce replacements. Consequently, their society functions with a mix of barely functional advanced tech and more crude adaptations, attempting to fill the gaps left by the loss of their former technological prowess.
Despite their shrinking borders and declining fleets, the Xanids continue to live in a world of luxury, vice, and denial, oblivious to the pressing issues affecting their society. In their collective consciousness, they hold onto the hope that a reversal of fortune is just around the corner, but their complacency may soon become their downfall.
