Tabonry (Tab-un-ree)
Tabonry is rapidly developing city along the Horn River. From a study fort, to a bustling town, to now a small city, Tabonry's impact on the world of Verenn continues to grow.
The city is known for the constant flow of trade to and from the city of Mearscon (and neighboring towns) into the kingdom of Calaviaire. The city has its share of hard workers and crime, yet it also has some fine shops and homes that rival those of Mearscon.
After the Legion war against Calaviaire, Tabonry has leveraged the goods and trade flowing out of the broken kingdom into its town coffers. The town has used this wealth to grow, despite taking on so many refuges from the east. This has made Tabonry's tall wall around the city even more important in recent years. There is a clear distinction from the citizens inside the city in their stone houses and cobblestone avenues compared to the wooden shacks and tents lining mud-covered paths outside the walls. This has created an "us" versus "them" mentality of keeping the refuges out of the city, or viewed another way, of not sharing in what the city offers to those outside.
Tabonry was originally founded as the Ironwater Fort centuries ago. This fort looked out over the Horn river, protecting trade from the denizens of the wilderness. Over time, a small town grew around it, and now, it has become a bustling city. The old fort has become the home and office of Mayor Hale, who has led the city's development for the past 20 years. Outside the fort, is Cobblefield, a huge plaza that is filled with market stalls every morning and shops lining the outskirts. This plaza is the heart of both commerce and life within Tabonry. There is a half-ruined old temple that stands out in the middle of the plaza.
The town heraldry is two hammers colliding.
"For good or for ill, everyone ends up in Tabonry sooner or later. The city's growin' quick, and everyone wants a piece of her." - Ash Stonegaze, owner of Peg's Tavern.Mearscon has had a huge influence over the years over Tabonry. Now that Tabonry has grown in size and importance, the smaller city is striving to break some reliance on the older city. Guild annexes from Mearscon are being replaced by unique guilds in Tabonry. Military patrols from the larger city are treated now as respected guests instead of government authority. The map below is not to scale. Tabonry is 3 times the size shown. Use the markers below as relative reference to one another.
