Mystryl Craft District

The Mystryl market square is the primary place to buy and sell perishables in the city, but the Craft District is the place to find those life essentials made by a person's hands. Shoppers can find any type of mundane item, and maybe even a magic one or two. Workshops of all sorts line the streets. The artisans of the district pool their money to pay for private guards, and the city government grants them some legitimacy. They usually just detain suspects until the City Watch arrives, but they can be direct and harsh with the obviously guilty.   Some of the prominent shops are listed below.

Mystryl Metalworks

  • Type: Smithy (shop)
  • Guild Member: Yes
  • Description: Mystryl Metalworks is a popular smithy in the Craft District and the largest producer of common metal tools and objects in the city. They are affordable and of good quality. The artisans of the district rely on the Metalworks for the tools of their trades.

Plane and Simple

  • Type: Carpenter (shop)
  • Guild Member: No
  • Description: Plane and Simple is a good-quality carpenters' shop in the Craft District. Two employees focus on crafting and repairing wooden tools and objects (and a few basic weapons), and a third carves wooden art, decorations, and home furnishing. These are normally sold out of the store, but a few of the nicer items have been sold out of Zeal in the Merchant District.

Mystryl Cart & Wagon

  • Type: Wainwright (shop)
  • Guild Member: Yes
  • Description: As a large-scale trading hub in the center of Winderia, Mystryl attracts farmers, artisans, and merchants of all types. That means a lot of carts and wagons come through the city gates, and Mystryl Cart & Wagon is here to serve. In addition to the typical work, the shop produces two or three elaborate carriages per year that it sells off to the highest bidders.

Story & Scroll

  • Type: Magic Shop — Books (shop)
  • Guild Member: No
  • Description: This shop doesn't fit perfectly with the other crafting businesses, but the owner finds this district more welcoming than the Merchant District. Story & Scroll deals in all kinds of "magical" books and scrolls, though how each item relates to magic varies. There are novels about wizards, dragons, or all kinds of fantastical journeys; academic tomes on arcane theory; textbooks on the lore and history of Mystra and Winderia; and even old maps and records of rare or allegedly magical locations. Low-level magic scrolls are regularly sold here, but high-level spell scrolls — and the rarest of finds, magic manuals — are advertised broadly before being auctioned off at one of the city's banks and exchanges.

Summit Holdings

  • Type: Bank & Exchange (shop)
  • Guild Member: Yes
  • Description: Summit Holdings is a moderately-sized bank that can handle all of the smaller shops that make up the district, both guild and independent alike. In addition to basic currency handlings, Summit oversees some of the more complex barters of crafted goods. It also serves the wealthier artisans who can afford to live in the district instead of the general city area or the Slums.
  • Notability: Summit is very ambitious and wants to expand the size of the business and its influence. It was the first bank to suggest a Banking Guild, and while only a couple of the smallest banks have signed on so far, Summit has gone on a full-scale marketing campaign to convince the major financial players to buy into the plan.

Steel Dreams

  • Type: Smithy (shop)
  • Guild Member: Yes
  • Description: All the smithies in Mystryl make fine common items, but only a few have the skills to craft arms and armor. Steel Dreams is one of those, specializing in high-quality metal weapons. This shop is a leader in the Smiths Guild.

Crimson Eye

  • Type: Hired Help, Individual — Cloak and Dagger (service)
  • Guild Member: Yes
  • Description: This is not the name of a shop, but of a well-known individual who patrols the district. Crimson Eye is a Guild representative who wears a signature piece out in the open: a full black mask with red thread sewn in the shape of a filled oval over the left eye. She is always "shopping" for potential clients. If she can't handle a problem herself, the person's request will find its way to the rest of the Guild to determine if it's worth the extra effort.

Looming

  • Type: Textile Production (shop)
  • Guild Member: Yes
  • Description: Tailoring is a major business in Mystryl, and someone needs to provide the raw materials. Looming is the largest producer inside Mystryl's walls and a leading member of the Textiles Guild. While the city's shops can't produce in the same volume as Rybury, the convenience of their products being immediately available for sale is a perk many tailors appreciate.
