The Sleeping Giant & Maggot's Redemption

It has only been a day since we fought those Redbrands at the Dendrar's. We thought we would have more time to plan out our eventual confrontation with them, but we were greatly mistaken. As we ate a hearty breakfast prepared by Mrs Alderleaf, we heard her scream outside near the entrance to the house. Led by Alphonse and Maggot, we sprinted outside to see what was the matter. Several Redbrands were standing outside. Two of them were holding on to Carp as a hostage. Apparently when Mrs Alderleaf tried to keep them from grabbing Carp, they attacked her and grievously wounded her.
 
While Alphonse healed Mrs Alderleaf and spoke with the Redbrands to try and buy us time to come up with a plan, unbeknownst to us Maggot had already sneaked away and attacked them from behind to rescue Carp. While they turned to deal with him the rest of us sprang into action. With Maggot and Matthias doing what they could to free and protect Carp and the rest of us keeping the other bandits busy we quickly defeated them and saved Carp. Realizing we could no longer put off the Redbrand issue, we decided to deal with them now.
 
We had heard from the people of Phandalin that the Redbrands frequent the Sleeping Giant, a tavern run by an orc named Greska that caters to scum like them, and decided to pay them a visit.
 
Having seen Maggot's incredible talent for stealth during our earlier encounter, we all agreed that (after using Edgar and Petri to get a bird's eye view of the place) we'd send out maggot to scout out the area and come up with a plan with the information that was gathered. Unfortuniately for us the Redbrands caught us before we could even make the attempt. While the Redbrands mocked us and told us to leave, Matthias took the initiative and charged in and began fighting them. Ignatius, Tristan, and Alphonse pushed forward to provide back up and while it seemed to an affective strategy at first, we were unprepared for the bandits and goblins still inside would use the boarded up windows as arrow slits. As Matthias and Alphonse fell in battle, Ernaldis and myself came to their aid with Ernaldis and Petri granting cover fire and I healing our allies with my newly acquired spell: Wither and Bloom.
 
After fighting off several Redbrands and Cragmaw goblins (Grol loyalists) Maggot and Matthias charged into the Sleeping Giant with myself and Tristan not far behind. Soon, the whole party had entered the building and finally defeated the last of our enemies. Greska then entered from the backroom to scold us for killing off her "loyal customers" and demanded we pay for damages. Matthias threw his coin pouch to the floor in front of her and. as she bent over to grab it, knocked her out by hitting her over the head. After retrieving his coin pouch he threw her unconscious body over his shoulder and announced that he would bring her over to the local jail in the Townmaster Hall for "aiding criminals; murderers and thieves". Though Ernaldis and Alphonse looked upon her with murderous intent we all agreed that this was the best way to handle the situation.
 
With all Maggot has done to save the Alderleafs and assist us in defeating these Redbrands and goblins from his former tribe, I am quite impressed with his quick redemption and improved morality and civility which is no doubt the result of Mrs Alderleaf having the patience and skill for teaching him. He will undoubtedly be a valuable ally for the battles to come.
 
Though we emerged victorious over our foes today, Ernaldis informed us that a quasit had "killed" Petri during our battle. Glasstaff definitely knows about us and will be prepared to fight. We cannot wait any longer; we attack the Redbrand hideout first thing tomorrow after we've rested and recovered from today's battles.
