Oleanna

by Devin Eilnara

What are you asking me? Are you asking what kind of person Oleanna is? Are you asking me to judge her? Do you want to know what I would do in your stead?

I haven't gotten to know her as well as Cal. Most of what I know about her is from research and memories in the Void. I'm sure you know those facts already. We haven't even spoken since she decided to give herself up and didn't do it a lot before then either.

I think Oleanna is someone who is trying to do good, but has often failed. She was just a child when she was given a lot of power and responsibility and a mountain of expectations. She tried to live up to those as best she could in the face of extreme hardship. Often, I think, she also lived up to the less good expectations people had of her. Maybe someone else would have done better with the challenges she faced, but she didn't get a choice, whether to face them or not. She was chosen.

I worry about what could happen when she loses control or is provoked. Oleanna is not good or nice or restrained and I don't think we'll ever be friends. But that is not what this is about.

I don't know if her good deeds excuse the enormous death and destruction she brought, even in the light of everything leading up to that moment and being under the influence of the Godsbane and Telfara's curse. My gut feeling is no but I don't know, so maybe don't listen to some random person's gut feeling.

Here is where things get personal and selfish. Oleanna has only ever helped us. She joined us in battle when asked. She protected Cal and saved Dani. For that, I'm very grateful. I think she could and would help us in our current fight against Telfara. And we could really need her help. So let her help.

This is not an easy or clear decision. But I believe, that if in doubt, decide in favor of the accused.
