Level 4 - The Aboleth

by Pietr Felborn

The news that an Aboleth was fouling the waters ignited a fire within the party. Rhys particularly seemed adamant that we face and defeat it. I'm game, as a abomination such as it should be removed as a threat. The group did a fair amount of shopping in preparation before we headed back down into Undermountain.

The was a lot of tactical discussion, and Flaem did cast a protection spell on my head, along with themselves earlier and eventually all the party had their minds shielded. We found rafts and some darkmantles protecting them, then a room that was obviously the aboleth's realm.

As we made our preparations to attack the monster and started in, it appeared out of a cave and insulted us as not worth it's time (according to Espy's translation). We moved to attack it and it disappeared, an illusion. Suddenly we were besieged by troglodytes and chuul enslaved by the beast. We plowed through them easily and made our way west into a large cavern that was all lake but for a small island in the middle. It had a petrified creature on it, with treasure at it's feet and more chuul guarding it. As we fought the chuul, the Aboleth appeared and we fought a pitched battle. Ussta and Flaem both dropped of their wounds but we succeeded in defeating it.

The rest of the denizens of the level were appreciative that the taint of the Aboleth has been removed. And that was a full day of work.
