Dúnaríen

Dúnaríen is one of the three regions which the Sjorgús Mountains are traditionally divided into, specifically the easternmost part bordering Gartaríen. The name refers to the Dúnaraz-dwarves who live in the area as scattered, nomadic tribes who subsist primarily on hunting, fishing and gathering, along with trading with neighbouring peoples to some extent.

Geography

Dúnaríen borders Gartaríen beyond the rivers Taþyrin and Þerles to the west, the arid region between the Sjorgús Mountains and Goldensands to the north and east, and the vast, mysterious woodland of Efergen to the south, the latter which the dúnaraz-dwarves avoid as much as possible due to the strange effect it has on people and dangerous wildlife found there.

Localized Phenomena

While the climate and wildlife is generally the same as in Gartaríen for the most part, strong easterly winds sometimes bring with them dust from Goldensands, which contains charged magic crystal fragments that can be dangerous as the crystals overcharge the body's arcane reserves, causing anything from nausea to loss of consciousness for those who lingers there during that time.
These valleys are home to endemic flora that has adapted to this phenomenon, giving the plants some unusual properties which shamans often use for making medicine to cure arcane illnesses.
