The Restoration
Following the devastation wrought by centuries of war between the Sorcerer's Cabal and the Obsidian Cloister, and the establishment of the Flow Accords, peace returned to the world for a time. There were smaller isolated conflicts at the beginning of the Restoration due to a handful of powerful magic users who were too proud to follow the guidelines the Sorcerer's Cabal had implemented to prevent further destruction. There was only a single incident of a sorcerer intentionally triggering a Wellspring eruption in 13 RE, calling what he believed was Archmage Kyran's bluff, hoping to prove that the Flow Accords were nonsense. This act of foolishness caused an anomaly in Kulumakane Lake near the town of Ravenhold in the Esterburn Highlands which caused the water to reach near boiling temperatures, causing three deaths. After this incident, the Flow Accords were taken more seriously.
One problem that plagued the peoples of Aellorah in the early Restoration period was the lack of magic. Many who were not gifted in the knowledge of how to use magic relied on various enchanted items in their daily life -- items which were rendered useless by the anomaly known as the Great Disenchantment. There was a tremendous amount of pressure on the Sorcerer's Cabal to produce replacements, and though this was great for business, the Cabal's resources were already stretched thin as it is due to the loss of so many talented sorcerers during The Reckoning period. In response, the Cabal began to offer courses free of charge at the Ars Aurum Academy to teach the basics of how to craft enchanted items, which led to several small shops being opened in the city which helped to meet the growing demand. This wasn't without difficulty, as many who attempted to cash in on the sudden enchantment boom had no business practicing magic, and for a time there were no regulations regarding safety of items produced by these shops, resulting in more than a few hazardous enchantments running amok.
This period also saw a massive restructuring of architecture throughout the world. With so much damage to smaller cities and towns from the conflicts that plagued the Reckoning, many older buildings were torn down and replaced with new architecture using better techniques, giving cities everywhere a brand new look. This was a massive undertaking that nearly bankrupted many smaller towns, but it was seen as necessary. This also caused a surge in innovation, including the establishment of the Runesmith College in Reshyk, which would lead to the development of Runetech.
The Dwarves owe their current level of advancement to a single woman -- Riswynn Jendor. This Runesmith was a pioneer who broke away from the fundamentalist, traditional teachings of magic, in order to take the next step. Her research led to the development of one of the key technologies that made Runetech possible -- the Flow Condenser. This device made it possible to collect static Flow from the atmosphere, collecting it all within a small area. Some found this pointless, until decades later, with the help of another pioneering pair of Runesmiths named Sundar Grayfist and Dalvir Brawnanvil, the Flow Cell was developed. This made it possible to store all the Flow being collected from the atmosphere in a small, compact box. Fundamentalists saw this as a way to bring portable Flow into mines where Flow saturation was low so that magic could be harnessed to improve mining, but Riswynn had a better idea and began researching how to use these Flow Cells as a power source for enchanted items. Instead of drawing power from the air around them, she found a way to feed the Flow from the Flow Cell directly into a wand, which of course burnt it out, until she developed the Flow Stabilizer, allowing the build-up of charged Flow to be converted back into static Flow at a rapid rate, releasing the "pressure" so that the wand could be used more often without having it crumble to dust. This was the final advancement that propelled the Dwarves of Reshyk into a new age of development. Seeing this incredible new technology's potential, King Balnur Felbor made the decision to seal Reshyk's borders at the beginning of the year in 449 RE, fearing what could happen if this technology was to escape to the wider world.
In the later half of the era, with the peace between the Kingdom of Derunadel and the Rojek Dynasty in Arak brought on by the devastation brought upon both, a chance for unification arose when the last King of Derunadel, Arundel Ellarian, sought to create a better system than the one he inherited. He saw how quickly The Commonwealth of Myr was able to bounce back from the Reckoning in comparison to Arak and decided to try to create a new system of government modeled after it -- but it would only work if he could get the Rojek Dynasty on board with it. He began negotiations with one of the Human Kings of the Rojek Dynasty, Esmond Dunhall, in the hopes of unification. Surprisingly, Esmond was open to the idea, but knew that the Lynoxi of the Yzerid would never agree to it, as the seed of hatred ran deep within them. However, they proceeded with the unification discussions, which caused a much more violent response than they expected as the Lynoxi of the Yzerid separated from the Rojek Dynasty and revolted, beginning the Yzerid Unification War in 408 RE.
The Yzerid Unification War lasted almost 80 years, and despite the Lynoxi's far fewer number of soldiers, they presented a significant problem for the remnants of the Rojek Dynasty as they attempted to work with the Kingdom of Derunadel to establish a new government. They used underhanded tactics and subterfuge to undermine King Esmond to sour the relationship he had been building with King Arundel. The feudal lords of the Yzerid saw a cooperation they had never before displayed and used acts of terrorism against the citizens of both nations to cause unrest. One of the most notable events of the war was the Harrowing of Hazelwater, during which, a feudal lord by the name of Scorchmane led a naval offense against the young port city of Hazelwater in an attempt to cut off supplies to southern Arak. In the meantime, attacks were carried out on the border between the Rojek Dynasty's lands and the Kingdom of Derunadel's lands hoping to distract the two nations. During his occupation of the city, Scorchmane killed nearly 2,000 soldiers and civilians, and blockaded travel in the Gulf of Liborius hoping to hold out long enough to cause a food shortage in Evergarde. This offensive was short-lived, however, as reinforcements that had been sent from Eldham prior to his attack were called in to deal with him, and due to their magical prowess, they quickly wiped out Scorchmane's forces before dragging him to Evergarde, where he was beheaded, and his remains were sent to the other feudal lords of the Yzerid.
Though the Yzerid Unification War was problematic and led to many deaths, the Yzerid did not have the numbers to succeed in an actual rebellion without employing less direct methods. There was an attempt to assassinate the Human ambassador of Evergarde, Morn Grantham, in 482 RE that failed due to the unexpected intervention of a Vesperkin who intercepted a magical attack aimed at Morn because the Vesperkin was invisible and just so happened to get caught in the crossfire. The attack petrified the Vesperkin, and none ever learned who he was or what he had been doing there, but he is now hailed as a hero in Evergarde, with a day dedicated to him, known as the Day of the Unseen Guardian, and there is a statue dedicated to him in the city thoroughfare. However, this Vesperkin, known as Roscoe Oldwort, had actually been sent to plant incriminating documents throughout Evergarde's keep meant to implicate King Helmut, Esmond's son, in a plot to betray King Arundel, and he was unfortunate enough to be between Morn and his would-be assassin. Ironically, both Roscoe and the assassin had been hired by two separate feudal lords from the Yzerid. This was the last chance the Yzerid got to sabotage the Rojek Dynasty before their rebellion was finally stamped out. When the war came to an end in 484 RE, King Arundel was able to complete the negotiations with King Helmut in spite of the Yzerid's delaying the inevitable resulting in King Esmond never getting to see the completion of what he had set out to do. With this, The Synodical Republic was founded, and Arak was split into several large regions that would be managed by magistrates overseeing districts of these regions.
This period of Aellorah's history lasted for about 743 years, and is abbreviated as "RE".
