Master Harper's Moving Tower

By the 5th century after the ark crash civilizations had built up infrastructure to the point that extravagances could be built. no one knows what the building was called before but there exists hidden in the Gaaga Bad Lands a mega structure that is unique and most unusual.   The remaining structure of the track contains relics that levitate the building only a few inches above the track. It is believed the track is self powered and uses some kind of repulsing beam technology. It may recharge from the sun or some other esoteric source of power we can't conceive of.

Purpose / Function

It is believed to be a gigantic inn; one with around 15 floors and it sits on a large track that it could travel down. It is believed that the building traveled down this track as a kind of pleasure cruise so tourists could stay in a luxury inn and still see the sublime wastes of the Gaaga Badlands.   It is now the manse of the wizard bard Master Harper. They run an bardic college out of it now.

Alterations

The original building was a technological marvel. much of the track in the eastern half of the route was dismantled or scavenged for parts. the western portion still exists and around 600 miles of track is still functional.   The tower itself has been redecorated by it's current owner. Purple and green dominate the interior now.

Architecture

This building was designed as trapezoidal pyramid wit large glass windows extending most of the east and west walls. The long side of the building is strips of glass and balconies with a metal or ceramic hull. There is a large slot that the building has running through it for the track it rides on. The roof is glass and there is a large pool and tavern on the top.   the building is not meant to stop along the journey, there is a platform at the end that when it stops there doors automatically open around the base. It runs autonomously and stays at the base for 36 hours then moves again. It seems to know the track has been partially dismantled and it will stop automatically then reverse in a few minutes. It may have been doing this for thousands of years.   There is no control room to speak of, the Innkeeper's desk has a display that shows the location of the tower in real time and shows the layout of the building and the locations of those within it. but there are no known controls to change the speed or direction of the building.   There are several dozen automatons that attend to guests, cook meals, clean rooms, and point out interesting spires. The food seems to be concocted from some kind of universal food machine. the swimming pool and water in the building similarly is produced by some means in the building and recycled. the Gaaga badlands are a hot desert but the temperature inside the building is always comfortable.   There is currently about 600 miles of track the building travels and it takes 4 days to travel from one end to the other.

Defenses

the exterior is made of synth composites that resist damage from normal weapons, the glass is also very tough and hard to break. the track elevates the building anywhere from 6' to 45' off of the ground. the track is extremely level, but supports will extend as far as necessary to avoid slopes.   It has no weapons or defenses per se but it is also fire resistant and any fires that are started are automatically doused with some kind of gas.

History

Believed to have built in the 5th century at the height of the star children's technology it may have had an endpoint in either Ucian or Tyri but no tracks have been found in either city but the existing track ends near these cities. This area is covered in huge mesas and spires up to 1000' tall in all kinds of colors. It's other end point is overlooking a cliff that looks back over the whole range.   Some time after the Engine 11 disaster and fuel sources became harder to come by the extravagance or cost of this attraction doomed it.   Some time in the 59th century the building was found again and inhabited by Master Harper.

Tourism

It is not known how popular this attraction was to the general populace or if it was a plaything of kings, but it operated for some time before being abandoned. Now only those who seek the Master Harper seek the tower.
