Chapter 3 Session 7: Possessed, Raging and Prone
General Summary
Amrys! Hurry! Thordak's gone mad! He's gon- OH GOD PUT SOME CLOTHES ON!The session started in the middle of the night as, not having taken a long rest yet, Olympia was attacked by a grinning and raging Thordak using his Harvest Maker to try and decimate her. Luckily, as initiative was rolled, Olympia went first and decided to try and alert her party members to the danger she was in by casting shatter on Thordak which in turn also damaged Mimsi (who was sleeping in the same room as her) waking the goblin monk up and deeply confusing them. After that, Olympia disengaged and tried to run from Thordak, screaming as she did so. Trailing after her, Thordak was clearly not himself as he mercilessly mocked Olympia and Mimsi, describing them each as weak monsters before nearly killing Olympia in two attacks, at this point Kodo woke up and joined the fray as Olympia used her dagger of the disappearer to misty step away and run to find Amrys who was resting in the house next door to the rest of Persicorum. The party engaged with Thordak as Kodo and Mimsi both fought and struggled against him as their stunning strikes and physical attacks were proving to be ineffective and he was drawing off of a new magical force that utilised a variety of different spells and effects against them as well as also regenerating Thordak's wounds. Olympia soon woke up Amrys who joined the fight with nothing but his longsword (and his longsword ;) ) as he dove through one of the windows to quickly enter the fray against Thordak. At that point, Olympia and Fen each immediately watched Amrys use illegal enchantment magic to influence Thordak with a Compelled Dual spell and force him to focus on the Oathbreaker Paladin. This gave Kodo and Mimsi an opening to further harm Thordak. As Thordak's body was on the verge of going unconscious or dying, the ghostly visage evacuated his form and emerged in a black, shadowy humanoid shape whilst Thordak was freed from his possession and was stunned by his situation. Apologising profusely to his friends one by one and even hugging them all (including fully naked Amrys) Thordak went for a bath to try and relax himself as Amrys revealed he'd been 'busy with a lover' when Olympia went to fetch him... hence his state of undress. Fen, meanwhile, took Kodo aside and explained his fears about his new grimoire's sentience and it's desire to kill and take the power of Bazzle Strum-Strum, Fen asked Kodo if he would act as his moral compass and possibly visit Bazzle with Fen to make sure the mage can be kept in check. Kodo agreed to this and questioned why a mage would willingly work with a grimoire... only to find that it was because Fen desired more power. THE PARTY THEN WENT TO SLEEP AND OLYMPIA DID NOT TRY ANY NEW PROJECTS!!!!!! When they awoke the next morning, the group discussed the nature of Mimsi and her relationship with her dagger specifically as Mimsi saw the dagger had changed it's shape, no longer a rough piece of black stone but it now seemed larger and it's blade now looked to be made of iron or steel and, though still black in colour, it had a teardrop shape to it instead of a cruel curve. Mimsi told Kodo that she had broken her link with the dagger and in response the dagger had emblazoned the words Betrayal and Promise on it. As Kodo and Mimsi celebrated her moving away from the dagger and embracing her pointy stick once more they noticed that the dagger was violently thrumming and becoming red-hot to the point it was causing the wood of Mimsi's bedside table to smoke gently. In response to this, they found Fen and asked the wizard what he thought of this dagger as Olympia toyed with the idea of casting identify on the dagger. Upon a VERY successful arcana check by Fen he realised that Mimsi may have accidentally or unwittingly entered into a pact with this dagger in a similar manner to warlocks, as a result, her disregarding the dagger is the equivalent of a warlock breaking their pact. Fen did not know what to advise Mimsi to do from here and so Kodo decided to go and fetch Lyren Killian to consult on the matter whilst Thordak and Fen went to Ellena Swarov to make sure she did not leave without them. As they visited Ellena and talked to her Fen very quickly butted heads with her. Citing her hatred for Aist Mages and her narrow minded desire to kill them despite the fact all schools of magic pose both dangers and benefits. The two came very close to outright fighting amongst each other before Ellena dropped the issue but admitted she does not trust Fen to do what needs to be done. Upon being left alone with the dagger, Olympia cast identify on it and learned that the dagger was once a part of the walls of Caer Dathyl where the Woven Providence daggers are created. However, upon falling into the sea of chaos, the dagger was dropped by Archania Weave and was warped and changed into a sentient thing of hatred and obsession. The dagger now sought out to build a relationship with a wielder, focused around it's desire to prove itself as useful by killing it's wielders targets. The dagger is constantly desperate to be 'good enough' for its wielder and can be only described as building a VERY UNHEALTHY relationship with whomever is attuned to it as it will constantly change and shift itself to be the only weapon of choice. As Olympia finished identifying the dagger it whispered to the room 'Promise... not... Mimsi' before glowing red hot and burning Olympia's hand. She put the dagger back down and decided to see what would happen if she cast Vicious Mockery on it. In response to the spell working the dagger vibrated angrily and cast a hex on Olympia that it would not remove. This caused Mimsi to panic and so the goblin pushed Olympia to the corner of the room, far from the dagger, and picked it up before asking out loud 'If I attune to you again and use you more will you stop trying to hurt my friend?' The dagger responded by saying 'Olympia... Friend... Why?' Mimsi explained that Olympia was her friend because she was kind, fair and powerful before she once more asked if the dagger would drop the hex if Mimsi made her pact with it once more. The hex remained but the dagger replied saying 'Archania... Promise... Olympia... Promise' Mimsi did not understand what the dagger meant by this and didn't have time to question it as Kodo returned with Lyren. Lyren looked the dagger over and attempted to cast dispel magic on the dagger (ineffective) and then on Olympia's hex (also ineffective) he explained that he wasn't sure what to say about the dagger that hadn't already been said, though he did express that casting a spell like Vicious Mockery on a sentient weapon was deeply foolish, something that Olympia took personally to the point of trying to throw down. Lyren, with Mimsi's blessing, decided to cast banishment on the dagger and it seemed to permanently vanish, implying it does not belong to the material plane. Before he wished the party luck on their adventure, Lyren gave Kodo a wrapped Mask and asked him to give it to Fen as the wizard had requested a mask days ago. Amrys next door recovered from his nightly adventures and began his prayer routine where he communed with a sad female ghost where he expressed his wish to 'One day join them all' the apparition cried a single tear before vanishing from sight to which Amrys took as a sign to start preparing for the journey. With that done, the party gathered with Ellena, Thordak and Fen where the mage and inquisitor were still clearly not seeing eye to eye with one another and snapping, Kodo decided to play diplomacy with the pair and try to get them far from one another out of fear that they would come to blows. The party went to The Silken Coat where they retrieved their stylish as fuck cold weather gear and prepared for their journey north with Ellena. As the group travelled, Ellena led them whilst the rest of the party followed her route as she was adamant that the Aist Mages would be hiding in a nearby set of caves in the north, those caves were the only chance of survival in The Mammoth Peaks and she'd often visited them to kill mages in the past. Olympia decided to move up next to Ellena and ask what kind of things the party could find in the Mammoth Peaks. Ellena explained that the Mammoth Peaks once houses a great city before The Dread King destroyed it and so there are still a variety of magical aspects and broken architecture as well as many wonders to see. Olympia then decided to chide the elderly woman into not rushing on this trip and instead enjoy the walk and views in an attempt to get Ellena to loosen up. In response Ellena agreed to slow down her near jog to a power walk in the spirit of 'Having fun'. During this time Olympia pelted the other members of Persicorum with snowballs before they continued their travel. Soon after, Persicorum and Ellena continued their journey through the snow-filled pine mountainside and, though the weather was good, they soon came across a clear hazard as a river of magma seemed to run through the mountainside and obstruct the groups travel. They discussed how to best cross this obstacle for a time before Olympia realised that the magma was conjured and transmuted by magic, as a result, Olympia and Fen each targeted section of the river with dispel magic and turned them into 10x10 cubes of water that the party could swim through with relative ease. Once this was done Kodo jumped across with Olympia in his arms whilst Thordak and Amrys jumped into the water and swam across. Fen and Mimsi, on the other hand, decided to fly across. To do so, Fen put Mimsi inside his bag of holding and flew across... not realising Mimsi also had a bag of holding. In that moment, there was a plane shattering cracking sound and Mimsi held on to Fen for dear life as they opened a portal to the astral plane that destroyed both of their bags of holding and removed most of their equipment, rations and all of the party gold. Luckily, Fen moved with strong enough flight that he escaped the tear in the astral plane with Mimsi in tow and, though their possessions were destroyed, they survived almost certain death. The party recovered from this bag of holding 'issue' and moved on with Ellena who, upon seeing the horrors on the other side of this tear, found a new respect for the party. Specifically Olympia. The party soon made it to the cave where Ellena tracked the mages to. As Olympia inspected the walls she found them to be a mixture of ice-cold stone, strange arcane warmth and a similar texture to the Lady of Pain's spire of punishment where they found Cain 'The Immortal' Diab. This led to the party questioning if they were walking into a prison and so they decided to approach this conflict with stealth in mind. As the party moved forward they found that Amrys, Thordak, Ellena and Fen all were struggling to stay quiet. When they found themselves in the open central chamber they found, not Aist mages, but rather three terrifying alien monstrosities. Two large gorilla like creatures with massive builds and green fur and a multi-coloured panther with an eye in it's tail that was intently growling. The party also saw a pile of bodies to one side that looked like common folk and a second pile of bodies that looked similar to the Aist Mages that assaulted Edmonton mere days ago. Before the party could investigate further, the monsters slowly came to a stop and Fen broke his stealth with a loud sneeze, drawing their bloodthirsty gazes.
