Lyren Killian

Look, if Kodo trusts you then I trust you. That makes us friends.
  • Lyren Killian discussing his reliance on Persicorum.
Lyren Killian appeared in Aria the same way many do, he arrived one day, found the nearest home, and moved in. He has contentedly lived there ever since, he occasionally acts as an alchemist for the town and rarely accepts payment.   Lyren is also a skilled Mahjong and dragonchess player whilst also knowing all manner of gambling games that he uses to entertain within the monkey's paw in evenings.   Lyren is a Tiefling with grey skin and darkening horns. He wears an old and slightly beaten suit with waistcoat and notably no jacket or cloak.   His home is a ramshackle space filled with books, tomes, a bed and sitting room. He carries his games in a travel case slung around his shoulder and notably has all of his meals in the Monkey's Paw, not tiring of their food for a year.   The only example people would know of Lyren casting magic are the letters that reached a number of people in Alturis from him explaining a job to look into the Spectre's research.   When the party took the job with Lyren he seemed deeply affected by Olympia commenting on his face being unlikeable and was brought to tears by Olympia and Gwydion's treatment of him... Lyren seems at the very least, fragile...   Lyren Killian revealed to the party that he is an Aist mage after they observed him, with bloodthirsty delight, using enchantment magic to force a pirate to stab themselves with a dagger.   He has since expressed to the party that he was an apprentice of the spectre and has hired them to help him find the Spectre and his library in the mammoth peaks.   Upon insight checking Lyren, Olympia found that he was deeply insecure and defensive... he knew the life of an adventurer didn't suit him and so he was always worried that the world knew that too.   Kodo saved Lyren during the fight on the Mistwalker during the Sea of Chaos, Lyren was badly wounded but Kodo had managed to stabilise the tiefling.   During their time in Edmonton Lyren focused on his recovery and left Persicorum to their own devices, barring the day that rogue Aist Mages invaded Edmonton and Lyren assisted Persicorum in beating them back.   He was also notably hired by Fen at that time to make him a Masked Magicka mask (though it was destroyed before Fen could use it).   When the party returned to Edmonton they found that Lyren and Olond Talthanryl were gone with Lyren leaving Kodo a message wishing him the best and saying that he always felt safest with Kodo's meals at The Monkey's Paw.   When they visited The Isle of Erathis , Persicorum learned that Lyren had, in the year the party missed, become part of The Inquisitors Masked Brigade and that he had found the party once and helped them escape... albeit bitterly. Though the group did not understand why Lyren would have joined his sworn enemies.   The party's most recent interaction with Lyren was during their battle with the terror chimera in Chapter 8, Session 3: Something Wicked This Way Comes in which Fen discovered Lyren was working to open the arcane gate that ushered Proto and Dashilla into the material plane... though luckily Fen managed to dispel the gate.
