A Thousand Years Later...
297 A.C. to the present
In the wake of the Halaanic Wars, the world began a thousand years of peace. The Empire of Halaan retreated to their original borders, leaving the Silver Mist Valley to the recently renamed Kingdom of Fealand. Each side built a massive castle a few miles from each other on the border. On the southern, Covenant side was Castle Falconshield, named for one of the war’s heroes, Sir Albrec Falconshield. On the Halaanese side was Castle d’Arvandor, named after the mythical otherworldly homeland of the elves.
The southern remains of the Ancient Godossean Empire were renamed the Kingdom of Fealand, and began intensifying their work on magical constructions to guard against future invasions. Soon after the war, the City-State of Thaan broke away, centered on its port and contacts with the undersea kingdom of Emirys. The elven- and gnoll-based Arcanocracy of Mazandaram and the goblin-controlled Tarqan Plains were largely untouched by the war, as were the western nations of the Ancient Alousian Empire, who had fought their own wars against Halaan in centuries past. The nations of Shan, Caemlyn, Baatherys, and the Second Alousian Empire were not drawn in to the southern Halaanic Wars.
Within a few centuries, the Kingdom of Rhean would be formed from southern parts of the Carentan Forest, and a few centuries after that, the tiefling-led Principality of Moghadam seceded from Rhean.
Two hundred years ago, the ancient caisheni kingdoms K’Shetriyah and its southern neighbor Ch’rth merged into the High Kingdom of K'Shetriyah-Ch'rth. Its people are mostly nomadic, with small sedentary communities, but no large cities outside the southern trading centers of Caishensen, Atreya, and the port city of Atris. Druids are common, especially low-level druids who learn enough to wild shape in order to survive better, but mostly serve particular communities like a village priest would.
It is now the year 1207 A.C. (After Collapse). There has been a thousand year cold war between the Halaan and the Southern Covenant, with only a few minor border skirmishes. Each coalition keeps a garrison at the Halaan-Fealand border, with the Covenant forces at Castle Falconshield and the Empire’s fortress at Castle d’Arvandor enforcing the peace.
Many of the elven Halaanese nobles and generals who led the empire during the War have finally begun to die off, and a new generation of elves is slowly taking power. It is unclear whether the new generation of Halaanese nobility are more tolerant than prior generations, though that is the hope of the Covenant nations.
