The Arcane Academy

The Arcane Academy is a district in Nogginsby, where it houses most of the educational buildings and faculties in the surrounding area. It is one of the oldest and most influential parts in Arvendorith, with the noble purpose of raising the next generation of Great Masters in the Arcane, more commonly referred to as wizards.   The Academy has a long and storied history, and many of Arvandor's greatest wizards and sorcerers are alumni of the school. The curriculum is rigorous and demanding, and only the most talented and dedicated students are accepted.   The Academy is housed in a grand campus, housing all schools of magic, and the Libary. The Library is renowned for its vast collection of magical tomes and grimoires, and the faculty is composed of some of the most respected and accomplished wizards in the land.   The Academy was founded by Jorik Wizzard, one of the first great wizards of Arvandor. It is said that he imbued the school grounds with his magic before he passed, which many people use to explain the unnaturally high concentration of magic on the academy grounds, though some more reasonably minded people attribute this fact to the Academy's Library, which houses many old and powerful artefacts and magical trinkets.

Purpose / Function

The Arcane Academy was founded by Jorrik with the intent of passing on his ancient knowledge of arcane wisdom and spells, in the hope of leaving his legacy in the hands of Great Wizards. The modern Academy still keeps these goals of raising the next generation of Great Wizards as their center purpose, unfortunately, due to financial problems over the years, they've also gotten the added responsibility of raising the next generation of Good Enough Wizards, and sometimes even less. Nonetheless they've still managed to keep up a veneer of prestige and respectability in the wider circles of wizardry in the world, keeping their spot as the most desired Academy to gain access to for an aspiring Wizard-to-be.

Architecture

The Academy has always been a centerpiece in the skyline of Nogginsby, which it mainly owes to it's oldest building on campus, the old wizarding tower of Jorik Wizzard. Legends say this is where the first generation of Wizards learned gained their mastery in the Arcane, though much evidence of these times has been lost to time, as the tower has often been rebuilt due to magical accidents, often leaving the tower with an extra hole or two.   The other prized possession of the Academy is the largest collection of magical books, tomes, scrolls and artefacts in Arvendorith, most of which are all stored in the Library. Originally a simple room where artefacts of great value were stored, it has evolved since then to be a great treasury of knowledge for even the sagest of wizards, making it one of the reasons why the Academy is still much sought-after. This high concentration of passive magic has led to some unforeseen side-effects, however, most notably of which is the architecture of the library itself. While the starting area can usually be described as a typical Library, with its desks for studying, info kiosks and normal bookshelves, the further people have dared to venture into the Library, the less sense it will start to make to the average geometry whizz. Bookshelves that seems to curve, bend, dissappear or clip into each other, carpeted floors with an angle that would frighten even the most hardened mountain climbers, and ceilings that can't seem to decide wether they even want to be there or not. Even the size of the Library hasn't been properly measured in the past 300 years, as people who have tried to venture to the edge of the Library have often never been seen again. The best estimates in the past centuries have been to establish that the safe parts of the library are often found to stretch up to a couple of miles, which are the best guidelines any wizard can hope for in a place with such high concentrations of pure and ancient magic.   The rest of the campus usually consists of a more reasonable amount of floors and geometry, though there are still the odd buildings here and there with 5, 7, 12 or even -1 floors. People have often tried to map out the entirety of the campus in the hopes of making navigation for junior wizards easier, only to find out that the floor they've just finished mapping out has mysteriously changed the location of all of its rooms, or even dissappeared entirely. These architectural kinks are often attributed to the Library, whose high concentrations of magic sometimes leak out to the surrounding areas.   Most of the tracks that are offered on campus have their own section of the terrain attributed to them, often leaving their marks on the buildings that they're given. For example, student can often watch the regular repairs done to the Evocation building after another rogue fireball went off, where junior students usually also note that the workforce of these repairs mostly consists of science projects from the Necromancy department of the Academy. The overal image that multiple schools put into one Academy gives off to the average passerby has often been compared to the ecosystem of the average jungle, where every animal is out to get each other, which somehow makes it all work out in the end.
