Njalpaða

North-Jolþic/Low-Æjalan: Njalpaða /ɲalːphaːða/
High-Æjalan: Hnjalpaða /n̥jaːlphaːða/
Ælic: Aþjal Úl /aːθjal uːl/
Njalpaða is the longest river in Þjaris, the northern part of Iðlía Forest in northwestern Jælondis. The source of the river is in the northwestern Qug Mountains, whence it meanders to the southeast and then east until it drains into the Niþvú Sea. Njalpaða and its numerous tributaries is where one of the main early þjaric elven cultures developed, the other areas being around Þlónó Lake and Niþvútic Coast, and the river basin is so fertile that agriculture didn't catch on among the inhabitants until their settlements could no longer be supported by hunting, fishing and foraging alone, long after their neighbours had become farmers themselves.
Today, the country of Jolþ rules the region south of Njalpaða in Þjaris, while Æjala is located north of the lower central parts of the river, and Ælea north of the upper river.

Geography

The lower and parts of the central river are easily navigable and thus important for transporting people and goods in southwestern Þjaris, while the upper Njalpaða and most of its tributaries are more difficult to sail due to rapids and waterfalls. Notable settlements along the river and its basin are Isaðep and Melrí, capitals of Jolþ and Ælea respectively, at the confluence of Njalpaða and Lalt on one hand and the major tributary of Depa on the other.
