Þrín

Þrínic: Þrín /θriːn/
Öþranic: Þrin /θɹɪːn/
Þrín is the capital and largest city of the republic of Terúk in southeastern Ójom, and one of the main cities of the Goblins in Jælondis. Located at the Hlejó River delta by the Þnisic Sea, it's one of the oldest continuously inhabited goblin cities in Jælondis, with the oldest settlement dating back to over three-thousand years BF, and there exists a (mostly) friendly rivalry between Þrín and Þelæ's capital of Irhar over which city was the was the site where goblins first landed after their voyage from Örkraz.
The popular restaurant chain Þreba's Seafood was founded in and is still headquartered in Þrín.

History

Þrín has long been an important settlement for goblins, beginning as the main settlement of their earliest civilization, Æþúb, later functioning as the capital of the vast empire of Onþók, and while the city of Tæx functioned as the capital of Ama later on, Þrín remained an important site, and since the Fell Wars forty years ago, it has become one of the most important ports in Jælondis and Borgalor in general.

Points of interest

  • Fountain of Þnix: A large, stone statue depicting the culture hero Þnix looking over a ship's bow as he sights land while leading the goblin people across the sea to Jælondis, with jets of water simulating waves.
  • National Museum of Terúk: Houses artifacts dating back to the goblin settlement and even a few prior to it. A new wing dedicated to the history of Narúrtic Dwarves is currently under construction.
  • Temple of Tararúm: The largest shrine in Terúk, dedicated to the goddess of fire.
  • The Floating Market: Features traditional food (including dishes unique to this place) and handicraft along with more modern goods.
  • The Old Palace: Once home to the corulers of Onþók, the Old Palace now houses Terúk's parliament.
  • Tourism

While not quite as popular tourist destination as the cities in Ytvía, rural Terúkans and particularly goblins from northern Narúrt often travel to Þrín during summertime to spend some time in the sun on the nearby Þújab Beach.

    Architecture

While stone structures dating back to the aman empire can be found in Þrín, the city's buildings are predominantly wooden stilt houses or at least derived from such style, though the lower floor and stilts may be built out of stone as well. Roofs are diverse in terms of shape and materials depending on the period they were built, ranging from bark or timber to stone- or clay tiles, and elements such as door- and window frames are often brightly painted.
Reconstructions of the oldest form of goblin houses, simple A-frame structures on stilts, can be seen near the National Museum.
