Onþók
Mjúltic: Onþóĥ Ehirĥ /ɔɳθ̼ɞx ɛhɪʁx/
Þrínic: Onþók Egærk /ɔːnθouːkh ɛkaiːrkh/ Öþranic: Onþók Egærk /ɔnθouːkh ɛːɢaiːɹkh/
Onþók was one of the major empires in goblin history, the reign of which most scholars consider the early part of their classic period, with the empire of Ama marking the later part. Its capital was the city of Þrín for the most part.
It was the first great goblin power to arise in the centuries following the decline of Æþúb, and the one that represents the greatest extent of their territory into the hinterlands of Ójom, conquering a number of lowland dwarven countries and human tribes between the river Úkún and the K'aflúll Hills by sailing up the rivers in the region, and expanded northwards along the coast to eastern Ójom as well.
Although goblins had adopted agriculture to some extent prior to the empire's founding, it became far more extensive during this time, though focused on growing Mandrakes, turnips, carrots and onions rather than cereals, as well as raising Giant Rats and sheep. Other traditions that had already developed were further refined in Onþók, such as stilt houses becoming more elaborate as traditional A-frame structures gave way to more typical log houses, and the oldest forms of goblin writing systems still in use appeared.
The relationship between onþókan goblins on one hand and dwarven and human subjects on the other was complicated, with some provinces near-continuously rebelling during Onþók's reign, while in more stable ones, unique customs and traditions emerged that would continue to influence later states in the region, particularly in cuisine, metallurgy and stonework. Contact with the people of Ytvía further contributed to this unique culture.
As the empire declined due to a civil war between the ruling dynasty and an upstart one from the northern provinces, Onþók lost most of the hinterland territories to invasions and native uprisings, and its armies were driven back to the river Úkún and Bexran Lake, which now form the modern boundaries between the two civilizations.
