Thirsten Thompson VII

Thirsten Thompson VII is a prominent human merchant from Kolis-Tane and one of the current benefactors of the Wardens.

Personal Life

Thompson the 8th

The wardens briefly met the son Thompson, Thirsten Thompson VIII , in Nightwell Hold  before he was killed by Commander Law . Thompson seemed to have a complicated relationship with his son mentioning later that he couldn't accomplish even the simplest of tasks (taking control of the town). When told that his son was dead Thompson asked for some time alone with the body but otherwise reacted very little instead focusing on regaining control over Nightwell. This lack of remorse at his son's death caused Gwen concern.

Work

Thompson runs one of the most prominent merchant houses in the Cantagon Archipelago. He deals in acquisitions and trades in gems, metals, exotic materials. He runs shipments all over the Archipelago and is one of the few known suppliers of dinosaurs from Tramarick.

Vloyuth

Thompson clearly has an extensive trade network on Vloyuth and when questioned about his intentions of being in Nightwell he indicated he wanted to set up better trade to Arias. He indicated that most of his shipping to and from Slekul was conducted through Lion's Crest and Beater's Point. He gave a lot of information on the content as whole in Transitions - Nightwell.

Trouble at Sea

One of the main ways Thompson conducts trade is through shipping. When boats started being attacked on the Beholden Crossing Thompson was hit particularly hard by it. He has since stopped shipping more 'sensitive' materials across the crossing and mentioned that he had lost several boats and loads of cargo to the 'attacks'. In order to enable one such shipment of sensitive cargo to get to Slekul, Thompson contracted with the Wardens to escort the delivery with 12,000 gold upon arrival of the shipment to Port Chrichton with an option to extend the job further to The Carrefour  The Wardens accepted the job and were told to talk to Captain Allister Johnsten in Lion's Crest to begin the journey.

Management of Nightwell Hold

When the Wardens first arrived in Nightwell Hold they heard of a mayor that was to come take over the running of the settlement from the then military head Commander Law. In investigating the town the Wardens found Thirsten Thompson VIII , Thompson's son, being held charmed by the circus. After freeing Thompson the eighth, they brought him to the Temple of the First Dawn where he was ultimately killed by Law as part of a power struggle for control of the Hold.    Several days later, Thompson arrived looking for his son after having not heard if he was successfully established. According to Jimmy, Thompson was given leave to go to the hold after throwing a fit in court over not hearing from his son. The Manten’Liche Army agreed to escort Thompson through The Everpine as they had business in the same direction.   Upon arriving in Nightwell and learning of his son's death Thompson indicated that he planned to take over the fort. In discussion with Yamil, the group learned that Thompson had bribed the king for his son's position and therefore expected to assume the position himself. Having no reason to think there was any foul play with James there to escort him the Wardens assumed that this was sanctioned by the crown and helped Thompson set up in Powder Keg Keep after ensuring that all of the war machines were destroyed.    Thompson indicated that his interest in Nightwell was purely business and that he was interested in shipping goods to the south of the Dragon Spine Mountains into Arias making Nightwell a prime location. Throughout the Warden's interaction he mentioned a deal but didn't say more about what it was or who it was with but Gwen learned that feigning not caring about his son's death was partially an act to ensure the deal went through. This most likely points to Claudia or the Manten’Liche Army as a likely partner in the deal as not many others were around for him to save face with. Gwen, through her ability to read thoughts, sensed that he wanted to do right by the people of Nightwell when requesting he look after the town.    When the Wardens left Nigthwell Hold Thompson was currently in charge.

Relationships

Manten'liche Army

Thompson travelled to Nightwell with the Manten’Liche Army but they seemed prepared to set up camp in Nightwell upon arrival, suggesting that their end location of the hold was predetermined. This further supports the idea that Thompson has made a deal with the army or Claudia , their commander, though the details are currently unknown. When we left Nightwell it seemed that Thompson had not yet concluded whatever deal was made as he was still trying to save face in our last conversation. This leads me to believe that the deal was either made for the army to use the hold as an outpost or was more specifically to aid the army in their search for the Nether Scrolls . It is unclear what Thompson would get out of this deal or how much he knows about the scrolls. This also does not explain his odd relationship with Claudia where she acted as his secretary, paying Myra in the church and running the reorganization of the keep, indicating that his deal may be with someone higher up the food chain.

Queen Angelina

In discussion with the Queen, in Unlikely Meetings - Lion's Crest , the Wardens mentioned that Thompson had taken control of Nightwell Hold. This surprised the queen and she instructed guards to immediately go to retake the hold in the name of the king. When asked about why she indicated that she did not trust Thompson.

Wardens

The Wardens are currently employed by Thompson (see Trouble at Sea above) to take a shipment from Lion's Crest to Port Chrichton. While the opinions of the group are their own, there was a general feeling of malaise and mistrust with the merchant.

Yamil

While Yamil  is employed by Thompson he didn't seem to have a high regard for the merchant. A number of times he mentioned that he wasn't really sure what he signed up for when he began working for Thompson, remarked that Thompson had no power only greed, and several other wording choices indicated that he did not hold his employer in the highest regard.
