Thals
According to legend at least one of the first groups of men came down from the frozen climbs into the flat tundras of Nornia. Those peoples were broad shouldered and heavy browed, with big hands and muscular builds. Until recently the men of the north looked much like Miridians, but when Nixalia sought to corrupt them to be the barbaric raiders she desired, she seemed to draw those old physical traits back to the surface. This devolved group came to be called the Thals. They run the gambit of skin, eye, and hair colors, though they seem to generally be lightening over time. Thals are generally hairier than the average Miridian, almost seeming dwarven in that respect. Some suggest their lower prevalence of magic users points to them being less intelligent than their southern cousins, though it is unclear if that is an innate trait or a byproduct of the brutal, rustic lives they carve out on the icy coasts. The version of Common simply called “Thal” is also simplistic compared to Miridian, sitting somewhere between a collection of regional slang phrases and a true, self-contained language.

Origin/Ancestry
Thals were created by the White Dragon Curse, Nixalia to be her minions. She unlocked their more animalistic qualities, perhaps reverting them to something more similar to their ancient ancestors.
