Arcade Room

The Arcade Room is so much more than its name suggests. The massive subterranean gaming complex houses arcade cabinets, pinball machines, pool tables, (non-gambling) card tables, and a plethora of carnival-like minigames. Students are able to purchase tickets to then utilize on the various games. They are then capable of exchanging said tickets, and the tickets they accumulate from winning, for prizes at the Prize Table.

Purpose / Function

The Arcade Room is designed to entertain the student body with a plethora of arcade cabinets, pinball machines, holocast games, prize booths, card and pool tables. There is even a category full of unique prizes for students to exchange their tickets for.

Design

Much of the Gaming Section is covered in large, artificial windows that utilize LEDs and hologram projects to simulate natural sunlight.

Entries

In total, there are four entries into the Arcade Room from the Basement Floor. One along the Northside and one along the Southside of the Arcade Section and one along the Northside and one along the Southside of the Games Section. Each of these doorways are composed of tinted glass with a steel frame that prevents the neon lights from escaping, and the hustle and bustle of the Basement Floor out of the Arcade Room. There is an additional hallway that connects the Arcade and Gaming Sections together; this hallways bisects the Basement Floor, effectively creating two segregated Basement Floors.

Sensory & Appearance

The Arcade Room is filled with neon lights that are each tailored to the environment around them; you can go from seeing neon pinks and indigos, to over-saturated reds and steely cold blues. Otherwise, the chambers are fairly dimly lit, toher than the electronic glow from various arcade machines.

A menagerie of sounds emitting from arcade cabinets and other stimuli create a chorus of electronic clicks and clanks. Joyful banter and excited outbursts are heard throughout as the students enjoy their recreational time.

Denizens

The students of the Manhattan Academy for the Gifted frequent this area.

Contents & Furnishings

The Arcade Room is filled with various forms of entertainment, but has been mostly organized into two sections: the Arcade Section (located on the Westside) and the Gaming Section (located on the Eastside).

Inside the Arcade Section are various classic and modern arcade cabinets arranged in low rows similar to a slotting machine arrangement in a casino. Additionally, there is a section solely dedicated to pinball machines.

The Gaming Section contains a number of high-end pool tables, billiard tables, table tennis, air hockey, card tables, and a vast number of other mini-games. (ie. Whack-a-Mole, Ring Toss, Darts, Plinko, Potty Toss, and Balloon Pop.)

Each section has a jukebox interface which will broadcast the users' choice of song to that section. There are a number of brown leather couches in both sections that afford the students some leisurely places to relax.

Within the adjoining hallway that connects the two sections, there is a prize and ticket booth. Here the students can purchase and exchange tickets. There is a wide-range of prizes available to be won from a catalogue with a minimal inventory of prizes kept on hand.

Architecture

The entire Arcade Room (and any adjacent neighboring facilities) is entirely built underground; therefore, it would be classified as subterranean architecture. The frame of the entire complex is reinforced steel and the walls consist of mostly concrete slabs covered in steel panels. Neon lights help decorate the interior and what spaces are left are plastered with posters for games, bands, soft drinks, and the like.
