Session 16: New Beginning Report

General Summary

Sunday Evening January 25, 1925 - Wednesday Evening January 28, 1925   More police show up to the scene and find the aftermath of the night. A brief reporting of information from the party to the new officers occurs, so they can be brought up to speed. The corrupt police chief, Captain Walter Robson, also appears ready to split heads, but backs down immediately when the party reveals evidence that the Ju-Ju House cult are truly responsible for the murders, and Hilton Adams is innocent. The party is dismissed without much incident as the police take the case for themselves.   The next day, the group gets a call from Elias's lawyer, Carlton Ramsey, saying there is someone there to meet with them. Upon arrival, they are introduced to Killian Morgan, a former soldier who is looking to avenge Elias. The group brings him up to speed and he agrees to tag along. The first stop is the docks, looking into Emerson Imports and their relationship to Silas N'Kwane  and Jackson Elias. We did learn that Elias passed by the place a day before his death. He was asking about an individual from Mombasa, Kenya named Ahja Singh. They imported some stuff for the Ju-Ju House.   The next day, we call up Professor Professor Anthony Dimsdale Cowles from Miskatonic University and arrange a meeting with him at a local diner there. He agrees, and we take the train down. We meet up with him and his daughter Ewa Seaward Cowles and ask him about his lecture on the "cult of darkness" he referred to. He talks about how this cult had a belief where they would make sacrifices to a being called the Father of All Bats and that these sacrifices would help usher their god into the world, where he would take over mankind. He also explains about an aboriginal song cycle (a sequence of songs/stories that records the precise journey taken by an ancestor) and how it mentions a place in the west of Australia where giant beings gathered and built great sleeping walls. But winds blew them down and opened the way of the Father of All Bats, who entered and grew powerful. He shows us some pictures of what he was referring to. He also mentions a person name Arthur MacWhirr, who kept a diary that mentioned stories about his expedition being attacked by aboriginals and the injuries they received being reminiscent of the injuries sustained by the flying bat/snake creatures the cult leaders could turn into. He says that Jackson Elias was one of the men who got his interest piqued in the cults and the possibility that they may not have disappeared. He also writes us a brief letter of introduction for if we ever find ourselves in Sydney (his hometown), we can check out the diary in person. We also warn him about the cult's interest in his lecture. We ask him about the Ponape Scripture, which we found on one of the brothers from Innsmouth (Nahum Eliot) a while back. He seems a little curious about why we're interested, claiming it to be one of the most disturbing and disgusting things he's ever read. He says there's a lot of similarities between the Father of All Bats and Cthulhu, like the fanatical devotion. About this time, his daughter tells him that it's time to get back to his class, so we part ways.   We stay the night and go up to Harvard the next day, where we meet Miriam Atwright. She had some correspondence with him about a book called "Africa's Dark Sects" but it went missing a while ago. It just so happens that we found it at the cultist hideout. We decide to read it before returning it. Afterwards, we decide that our investigation in New York might have reached its end, and we begin looking at foreign places to continue investigating. We begin planning for the next stage of our bizarre adventure.
