Monastery of Stone
The Monastery of Stone is dedicated to perfecting the body and mind. Through rigorous training exercises and mental focussing, the monks of the Monastery of Stone are martial artists without compare.
Structure
Culture
Various methods are taught at the monastery, each with their own master, or Sensei. Although their training makes these monks deadly warriors, rarely do they get involved in conflict. The monks at the Monastery of Stone believe in peace above all else. Their martial training is a way of mastering oneself, and the monks are taught to only fight when there is no alternative. It is considered that the less one needs to use their fists, the more they have progressed on their journey to enlightenment.
Those who successfully join the monastery are expected to live within the order for at least the first 4 years of their training. From there, students can choose whether they wish to return to the wider world, or continue their training to truly master themselves.
Public Agenda
The monastery welcomes all who would seek to better themselves. There is no payment required to join, but applicants will be appraised by the masters before being allowed access. The monastery helps people to better themselves, with the hope that in turn, these people will make the world a better place.
History
Sunstra was born in Sonkai, where she was one of the Monastery of Lilies' top students. It is said that she is one of the only students who managed to ascend to the top levels of the tower there, where she challenged Master Feh. The outcome of that challenge is unknown, though Sunstra left Sonkai shortly after and founded the Monastery of Stone in Kureta, in 956 KCB.
In the year 999 KCB, the monks were drafted to fight on behalf of Kureta in the war with Nakaba, to devastating effect.
Since then, the monks have been mostly left alone - provided they continue to pay taxes to the government. To do this, the monks often hire out students to assist in affairs for the state or those who are wealthy enough to pay for their services. These services usually include investigative work or protection, but occasionally include other miscellaneous tasks suited to their skills.
"Our own selves are the greatest obstacles to enlightenment"
The monks of the Monastery of Stone live an... interesting life. By which I mean, quite boring. Day in day out, the same routines, lots of standing or sitting still, lots of quietness, lots of... weird movements. Not for me, but the building itself was quire impressive to behold.
