University of Kraticium

The University of Kraticum is the second largest institute of higher learning in the Shin Empire. It was established in 653 as the northernmost college in the Jakonian Empire, and thus is the only organization within the Shin Empire to have been founded by invaders and still extant to this day. They were known for some time as the only Shin college to welcome foreign students, until the closure of the nation's borders in 999 AF. They are believed to remain still active, according to reports of smugglers and spies, but drastically reduced in size and scope from their previous operations.

Structure

The University of Kraticium is organized into three different colleges: the College of Arts, the College of Artifice, and the College of Magic. Each of these colleges are maintained by a dean, retaining a similar organization to that once created by the Jakonians. The head of the University is the Chancellor, who is appointed by the Legate of Kraticium. The appointed position typically goes to a scholar or local professor who has earned the favor of the government in the city, often through deeds or accomplishments. The chancellor and deans can undertake their own programs and initiatives, but all must be offered approval by the Legate.

Public Agenda

According to reports, the University of Kraticium has been a stalwart opponent to the closure of the Shin Empire's borders. They have repeatedly requested a reopening of borders, after many students and staff were deported. The Legate of Kraticum allegedly has supported this agenda, but as such, it is believed that there is no one to complain to, as the silence from Novanass remains deafening.

Assets

The University of Kraticium once possessed the largest collection of Apps relics in all of Emicara. The outbreak of the Great War and the liberation of Kraticium in 818 by the Shin Empire led to the looting of many of these treasures by the Shin and Jakonians alike. Many of their old relics were returned to the Imperial University in the south before the invasion or taken instead to Novanass. The University recovered for a time with the return of foreign students after the war, particularly from Bamard, and made good with new funds. Unfortunately, the closure of the border in 999 has also led to many of the professors and most experienced students being transferred to the college in Novanass, rather than remaining here. Only the Arts department remains at full strength.
