Etienne is the baron of Cote Sombre and brother to the murdered Count of Alliathiore.
Many of the knight who had sworn the old counts fealty have moved to his realm.

Personal history
Etienne was the youngest male in the family and as such always played the second fiddle compared to his brother. But he loved him and accepted his role as he knew he would inherit the barony.
When his brother married a small, sickly girl from a low level noble family he could not forgive her. And as their first son was a ssickly as she was he became worried. When his bbrother were murdered he realised the family could loose the county.
Somewhere deep inside of him, he harbours a suspicion that Eleonoras family had the count killed to grab the County. Perhaps she is in on it

Etienne is at best competent on the field of battle, he is strong in negotiations and his cheerful ways makes people want to follow him.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
Etienne believs that the family Da Ville should keep the county. If his brothers son would die, he firmly believes that if that happens the countess will claim the county as hers and remarry. Her sons would then start a new line of counts whom are not Da Ville. He wants to claim the County for himself as he loved his brother who were the count, but loathe his choice of wife. A sickly and weak woman of a lesser noble family. And the son is just like her, weak and sickly probably wont live for long. The county needs a strong hand or the Raxorian rabble will rise, supported by the raxorian nobles.
The only thing he agrees with his wife in law, is that those who killed the count needs to be punished and he have promised a reward to those who find them and prove they are guilty.
Etienne is a cheerful and perhaps a little shallow individual who likes a good laugh, wine and fun company.

But she has not demanded in and there has been no reason to stir the hornets nest. She pretends his vow to her dead husbands includes her.
