General Physical Condition
Short, even by Gnome standards. Tanto has brown hair and brown eyes, his skin is a tan white with a pink hue. He is commonly covered in dirt and almost always smells of...something strong.

Personal history
Tanto was given his name from his tribe to represent one who will always stood up for his friends, gnome and animal alike. His appearance and pungent aroma may be unpleasant, his ferocity in combat is still equally matched!
Around folk who like and know him, Tanto can freely express his ideas, which are usually quite brilliant. In the big, loud world, where people question and challenge and shout and only respond if you can shout back, he loses confidence and retreats inward, either not saying anything or just leaving and doing his own thing.
Tanto has never much cared for the ideology of civilization. The simple community of his forest kin has always been enough (and sometimes too much). He’s always been perplexed why people let money and property distract and consume them. Nature would provide everything they need if they’d only let it.
Tanto is most comfortable laying on a pile of dirt under the trees as nature has always provided what Tanto needs to survive and he has never asked for anything more. Even among his own tribe, the forest gnomes, Tanto has always found peace being outside so he can be with his little critter friends.
Though most forest gnomes live in the east, Tanto’s tribe made the High Forest their home. Being so secretive, only a very few of the wood elves who lived there knew of their existence. Having met other defenders of nature, Tanto was exposed to a variety of teachings. The druids of Silvanus especially appealed to him, and he adapted many of their ways and perspectives into his worldview.

Motivation
I place no stock in wealthy or well-mannered folk. Money and manners won’t save you from a hungry owlbear.
I’m always picking things up, absently fiddling with them, and sometimes accidentally breaking them.
