Mashiqi Market Quarter

The Mashiqi or Market Quarter is a civic district within the Holy City of Jeharoa. The oldest part of the city and where most of the indigenous population lives. Much of the area is located in a depression between Mount Jeharoa and the Ashkelon Hills. As a result, this area is not a particularly attractive place to live. The streets and alleys are often caked with filth, and the lack of rains means that the area remains filthy for much of the year. Many of the buildings either date to the Palladian Era or earlier. These buildings were once larger but have been since subdivided and repurposed for housing. This makes fires and earthquakes especially dangerous in this part the city. Despite this downtrodden reputation, the city’s major market places are all located either in or near this quarter.
