Battle Balt Blades

A popular wall poster from 832AP representing the original design plans for each blade. A useful reference for any Battle balt connoisseur to compare how the original designs have evolved to the modern day equivalents. The original sweet spot of each blade is shown in lighter green.
The most common blades used in a Battle Balt contest. All quotes taken from Spider to Balters 840AP Edition. Blades ordered by date of first introduction in the Arena of Light. (Underlined values signify best in class.)

Notable mention:

Best of the rest goes to the Snipe-blade created by the Fein at the end of the last century and popularised by Intisar the Invincible. I have declined to include it in my list due to its lack of popularity (and the fact I don't sell it in my shop!).
Please don't send me requests to review your favourite blade for I don't have time to test all the countless blades that are currently on the market. I recommend you go to any officially accredited balter stockist and try them out for yourself before purchasing.

Create-a-Blade Competition:

Send me draft pictures of your own blade designs and I'll give you an honest opinion on how well it would perform in the arena. I will even build the winning design into a full-size blade constructed in my best stocks of marvela wood, and then sell it under your name. You will also receive 10% of all essence coin on any units sold. Other notable entries will get a page dedicated to the design with a review from me.

A brief explanation of Goster's rating system:

Weight: The lighter the blade, the higher it’s rating.   Speed: The balance of the blade and how quickly it can be moved into position for both defending and attacking.   Power: How hard the blade can hit the balt. Blades that project the balt at the fastest velocities score well in this category.   Accuracy: How precise can a balter direct his shots into the corners of the goal.   Sweet spot: Every blade has an ideal zone for hitting the hardest shots. The larger this area, the more consistent a balters attacks. Each blade's image has a red area allocated to show its sweet spot. The bigger the area, the higher the rating.   Blocking: Relates to the ability of the blade to defend a balters goal. The agility of the blade connected to it's head size determine this rating.   Durability: This rating connects to the chance a blade could crack or break in a contest. It also relates to the vibration of the weapon. Poorly balanced blades vibrate a lot, which impacts performance, especially when trying to perform deft defensive balt stops.

Goster also provided a simplified chart system (shown below) for each blade, consisting of:

  • Agility: A combination of the blade's weight and speed ratings.
  • Attack: A combination of the blade's power, accuracy and sweet spot ratings.
  • Defence: A combination of the blade's blocking and durability ratings.
