Thunderbird Rookery
The magical rookery in Highstorm is a wonder to behold. The rookery is a towering structure with a pointed spire that stretches high into the sky, constructed of dark, ornate stone, giving it an ancient and mystical feel.
The interior is a maze of corridors and aviaries, with various rooms dedicated to sorting and processing messages. The walls are adorned with ornate murals depicting scenes of the birds in flight and the magical energies that power the rookery. At its heart is a grand hall where visitors can observe the birds in action, as well as purchase various magical items and trinkets associated with the rookery.
Within the rookery, hundreds of sleek black birds flutter about in a flurry of feathers, squawking and calling out to one another. These birds have been enchanted with powerful magic, allowing them to travel between the islands of Highstorm and Springstar with ease. The birds are able to deliver messages to their intended recipients with incredible accuracy, no matter where they are in the city. How they are able to do so is a closely guarded secret, known only to the caretakers of the rookery. Some whisper that the birds are guided by an otherworldly intelligence, while others believe that the magic imbued within them allows them to sense the presence of their targets.
The rookery also includes some larger aviaries for a small handful of well-cared for griffins. These griffins can be used as taxis within Highstorm, and they're also used for the delivery of larger packages, though they're not able to travel to Springstar. While their services aren't cheap, it's also a beautiful way to see a bird's eye view of the city.
