Armorer's Union

"Yeah, I finally got around to paying my dues. Cost me a pretty penny but at least I don't have to worry about coinscrapers coming around the Blue Blazes. That mark means I can make you a nice set of armor now without looking over my shoulder for no owls."   ~Bulig Flamedraft, Master Smith

History

Founded in 265 from a collaborative effort of numerous smaller city guilds, the Armorer's Union started off by aggressively courting nonaffiliated armorers. For the ones that refused to come under the Union, they found the defense business to be quite literally cutthroat.   After consolidating the business of armoring the mercenaries and aristocrats, they took over the tailor's guilds as well as the tanner's guilds under the auspice of protecting their interests against a proliferation of light armors.   Finally, they developed enough power to start pressuring weapon manufacturers, but here is where they were stymied by Edler Callez. At the threat of having any future force be bereft of armor or even clothing, he had to surrender a few concessions to keep them happy. The Armorer's Union has the right to manufacture the War Kit while other weapons such as the Stackels and Slings remain available to anyone capable of making them.   Intrusions by the Cutlery Guild are common, with the invention of the Long Knife and the Valcon designed to circumvent laws and rules put in place by the Armorer's Union.
