Fort Hopewell
"Fort Hopewell stands within sight of the cliff-face that saw the end of the Doomed Crusade. It represents the very edge of Maecodian civilization. Beyond its bladed walls is greenskin territory. We all owe a great debt to the men and women of The Hopewell Aspirants, they form the last bulwark of the Barrier Mountains, and when the greenskin menace finally comes the last survivor of the fort will warn the rest of us that the time has finally come."
~Ellayne Warbough, Sheriff of Alcedene
Demographics
The majority of the fort is populated by the descendants of Hoper refugees.
Government
The President-in-Exile oversees the executive functioning of the fort. Demiurge priests fulfill the judicial functions of the settlement.
Defences
Fort Hopewell has thick stone walls with leather made from goblin hides stretched over the west wall. Bronze and iron blades curve upward at seemingly random intervals and are kept razor sharp and in good repair by the defenders. A living catapult made from a cedar tree stands upright in the center of the fort, the only tree of its kind for miles.
Industry & Trade
What the fort can't make or forage on its own, it trades for with Alcedene. Gold infusions from Cambreath council ensure that the rangers are comfortable enough to be induced to stay. They primarily export honey and meat from Apionies.
Infrastructure
A deep well dug into the bedrock taps into an underground lake of potable, clean water. A silver mine with a small mint makes currency directly for the fort coffers. Wild gardens of Noblewhite Blossom coat the nearby mountainsides with small cultivated copses of Wyvernbane Trees.
Assets
Fort Hopewell has several herd of Apionies.
History
Fort Hopewell was founded in the year 600 by refugees from Lake Hope and the surrounding lands.
Geography
Fort Hopewell is nestled at the base of Weeping Mountain. the nearly vertical southern slope rests against the northernmost wall of the fort, and a miles-long drop off a cliff into an ocean rimmed by jagged rocks. A road in bad disrepair winds through the fort from west to east, with the eastern side of the road being maintained for use in trading with Alcedene
