“Ride to Carrion hill,” you hear Vrood’s voice speak. “Our agent will exchange the Star Moit for the Pnakotic Manuscript, the relic we need.”
The
Pnakotic Manuscript is an ancient text that contains information about portals and conjuration magic. A copy of this tome was recently discovered underneath
Carrion Hill in possession of the Leng ghoul,
Yareesh.
Appearance
The Manuscript's cover is a bluish leather that is slightly spongy to the touch and has a large inset dull, green crystal as well as a series of metal, insect-like clasps that lock together when closed. There is a red silk bookmark as well as heavy annotations in spidery script amongst the dense text. The Manuscript is written primarily in
Aklo, or some dialect of it, with the notes written in Common and academic in nature. The tome radiates necromantic energy washing over whomever studies it. This copy of the Pnakotic Manuscript appears to have been transcribed 600 years ago (circa 4111) from some ancient Kellid tablets buried beneath Carrion Hill.
History
It appears that the Manuscript had recently been used by
Keepers of the Oldest to summon a
horrible creature that killed them and then began rampaging through Carrion Hill. When the book was found by the Fellowship, it lay on a crude stone altar, protected by some sort of powerful
ghoul named Yareesh. Yarresh agreed to allow the Fellowship to study the book in return for procuring something called the “Eyes of
Yog-Sothoth” from the summoned creature.
The original Pnakotic Manuscript appears to be a key factor in raising the
Whispering Tyrant It is unclear at this time if the
Auren Vrood possessed the original or this copy, and if the copy would sufficient enough for his purpose.
Contents
The Fellowship found that there were arcane spells within the book that are extremely powerful (such as
Gate,
Greater Teleport,
Interplanetary Teleport, etc.). Yareesh seems to have been looking at
Gate. Also within the tome is the ritual used to summon the Spawn. The Keepers seemed to be have been trying to open a portal to the other side in general, but they allowed the Spawn to come through, intertwining themselves together. Kyrrn also gained knowledge on Yog-Sothoth and other things going forward such as spells, rituals, and general knowledge.
Also found on the inside cover of the book was the following inscription:
"May we, the Keepers of the Oldest, prevail over the scourge of the simplistic thought and lesser men."
Keeper Baskerwhel
Keeper Crove
Keeper Hyve
Keeper Marshan
Keeper Myre
